We were watching tv one night and saw a commercial for Kraft Homestyle Mac & Cheese. Chuck thought it looked fabulous. So I found some and made it one night.
First, boil water and cook the macaroni.
Drain the macaroni and melt some butter in the same pan.
Then mix in the seasoning/flour mix. You are basically making a rue similar to if you were making mac & cheese that doesn't come in a package.
Then add milk and let the sauce thicken up.
Then you add the cheese. This comes in a pouch…it's not powder cheese, it's a creamier cheese. You mix this all together.
Then add the noodles. It's starting to look tasty!
Mix that all together. The directions say you can serve it at this step. If you don't serve it now, add it to a casserole dish.
But why serve it before baking when they give you crumbly topping?
You can add more cheese to it before backing, but I didn't have any. So I just baked it.
Then serve!
Chuck said it was a little bland. I like bland, so it didn't bother me. I also bought the 4 Cheese blend of this meal. We had it a couple days after I made this one. Chuck said it had more flavor and he liked it better. I didn't add any more cheese to that one either.
I thought they were tasty. I don't usually find a macaroni made with processed cheese that I don't like! 🙂
Now I'm hungry again.
