Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants

Posted on October 7, 2012 by Andi

A number of months ago, I came across this book at the library. I was renewing it all the time because Maddie loved the book and so did I. I did a little looking online and found that there are actually three books in the set.

Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants

Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug

Grandma Calls Me Gigglepie

I have given these books to a couple different people as gifts. They have cute stories and Maddie has learned a bunch of different animals from them. My mom really likes reading “Grandma Calls Me Gigglepie” to Maddie, too.

So if you’re looking for a good gift, you need to add something to your kids’ Christmas/Birthday list or you just want a couple new books for your kids, I highly recommend these!

Favorite Books For Kids

Posted on January 14, 2014January 14, 2014 by Andi

We do a lot of reading around here and there’s a good chance when you ask Maddie what she wants to do, her answer will be “go to the library”. And since I write about the books I read, I figured I should write about some I read to the girls, too.

A while back, I did a post about a series of books I love…Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants. Maddie (ok…really it’s me) has some new favorites.

P_36859874_2144933

Won’t You Be My Kissaroo? is such a cute book. I was so excited when I found this next one.

hugaroo

Won’t You Be My Hugaroo? I just love reading these to Dannie right now and she loves to turn the pages and look at the pictures.

The next two we just got at the library and they were adorable.

if-animals-kissed-goodnight

If Animals Kissed Good Night is my current favorite book. It just makes me giggle.

18a0c97e670a9f5f821c7cbcde5e5564

And Maddie did pick out a Halloween book, Goodnight Goon, but I loved it. I will have to remember this one and get it again next year during Halloween.

the-going-to-bed-book-main

I read The Going To Bed Book to Dannie every night before bed. I picked it up at a consignment store when Maddie was a baby and it is still one of my very favorites. I love everything by Sandra Boynton, though!

napping-house

We have gotten The Napping House from the library before, but Maddie got it for her birthday. We read it most nights at bedtime. Maddie is really good at reading along with me.

The-Cheerios-Play-Book-9780689822803

We have 4 of these Cheerios books. My mom picked them up for Maddie. When you open the pages, there are spots to put cheerios. Sometimes it’s noses or hats or buttons, but both the girls love these books and what could be more fun than reading and eating?? No, seriously? Smile

61KQb rIF4L

I adore all of the Llama Llama books, but Llama Llama Mad At Mama is my current favorite. The girls have this exact same scowl and I love the story. Maddie tells me all the time that she’s mad at me (toddlers are so full of emotion) and this one is a good book for her right now. Smile

fancy-nancy

All of the Fancy Nancy books are great. They are such cute stories and I love the pictures and the creative words she uses. I love that she helps teach kids new words and expand their vocabulary. Plus it doesn’t hurt that Maddie is adorable when she says “Fancy Nancy.”

I am sure there are many other books for kids that I love, but these are the few that stick out in my head right now. I have given the Cheerios book and the Monkeypants series as gifts before. I know any of these would make a great gift for a baby shower or even a birthday. Or maybe you just have some new ideas of books to read to your kids.

What are some of your favorite books for kids? Favorites from your childhood? Favorites that you read to your kids?

11 Months Old

I can’t believe this is my last monthly post before our little pumpkin turns ONE! (And again I am a couple days late posting this.) I swear Dannie’s first year has gone by way faster than Maddie’s first year did.

i-zgCS2Km-XL

Dannie is the happiest little baby and makes me laugh and giggle all the time. The faces this girl makes are something else!

i-gcgZb4M-XL

She is loving her food more and more (if that is even possible) and will try anything I give her. She was having a great time playing with spaghetti noodles the other night.

i-3D3Cvm2-XL

After she stuffs her face, she has been learning to put her food in the cup holder on her try. She was putting her cheese in and out and then clapping at herself. She was so proud!

i-gszJV95-XL

i-3vMzV8R-XL

I gave her my apple one day when I was done eating it. She thought it was great fun to suck on it and bite it.

i-HGxG9gg-XL

We were at a restaurant recently and Dannie wanted to take bites off her banana. It was cute, except she wanted to eat the whole thing at once.

i-NjFRMZR-XL

Dannie had a couple days where she really liked playing while she was laying down. It was funny….and very unlike her to want to stay in one place.

i-6DjjWvW-XL

Our dear friend, Kelly, moved to Seattle and likes sending our girls clothes and toys. Two of the things for Dannie were a huge hit with the girls.

i-3Nk32Gh-XL

20131003_115047

I was sitting with Maddie on the couch one morning and Dannie was very upset that she wasn’t up there, too. I took so many pictures of her crying at us. Smile

i-9DQtZwV-XL

Dannie loves my phone. It was her motivation to start moving. I should really use it as incentive to get this girl to walk. Smile  This time I used it to get her to sit in one spot for her monthly photos. Smile

i-43776C6-XL

i-n4zVDCf-XL

Dannie has really started to love books. I haven’t taken very many pictures of her playing with them, but she will sit and turn the pages. It’s one of the only things that will keep her occupied for a couple minutes at a time.

i-mCP5F72-XL

Dannie loves getting into the drawer under the oven. Maddie loved it, too.

i-jhQ8dGQ-XL

Some of the time, the girls play nicely together. This was a rare occasion that they were playing happily together. But it usually ends in tears because Maddie decides the toy Dannie has is hers and she can’t play with it anymore.

i-FMTvLzj-XL

Dannie has started to fight back a little bit. Maddie likes to lay on top of Dannie and D has taken to grabbing her hair. Then M gets mad and I just laugh. Great parenting, I know. Smile

i-dz3Hgxc-XL

Everyone tells me they will like each other when they get older and be best friends. Times like this where they love each other give me hope. Smile

i-Nm8CCZf-XL

Dannie loves the zoo and her favorite place is the fish tank. She was all smiles and wide eyes when we were there with grandma. She also likes that I will take her out of the stroller more and let her enjoy the zoo.

i-gF2hRGv-XL

i-Kgh59GG-XL

Dannie also loves playing at the park. One morning before lunch, I took the girls to the park behind our house. Dannie was having a wonderful time playing and exploring!

i-kk3ZCqD-XL

i-mXWnbDw-XL

i-mZj4VnL-XL

i-GF59Rsw-XL

This little stinker likes to get into everything. her favorite thing is to reach under the couch and find goodies….usually power cords. She also went over to Maddie’s picnic table the other day and climbed right up onto the bench. I think Dannie is going to be my daredevil!

i-KsmQCK6-XL

Everything is still going in her mouth these days. Between teething and a never-ending cold, she has been putting anything she can find in her mouth and drooling all over the place. She has also learned that she can make lots of fun noises and sounds with her mouth. Her favorite is raspberries.

i-LBkxXXw-XL

I can’t wait to see what this next month brings. She is getting so big every day and less and less like my little baby.

i-FNQ9bNP-XL

Happy 11 months little monkey, pumpkin, silly pants, Dan Dan….we love you!

15 Months Old

Posted on May 16, 2012May 16, 2012 by Andi

We just went to Maddie’s 15 month check up. The doctor was quite impressed by her. (I’m happy even if the doctor tells that to everyone!) She was 32” tall (long?) and weighed 19 pounds 7.5 ounces. She’s just a tiny little thing. Well, tall and tiny. It’s a challenge to find pants. She is long, but her waist is small. Maybe she would fatten up a little if she ever stopped moving. Smile

Maddie has learned to climb on things. She can’t quite get on the couch, but she did learn (just yesterday) how to get on the couch by climbing up the speaker next to the couch. She giggles at herself and is oh so proud. Smile She will also climb up if she moves a toy near the couch to use as a step.

Maddie is growing up so fast. She is learning something new every day. Just yesterday, we video taped this new trick she learned….after one try, she had it down!

Maddie is a little sponge these days. She tries to repeat or copy everything. I need to make a list of all the things she says, so here seems like a good place to do that. Smile

* Words (16): mama, dada, hi, uh oh, oh no, up, down (dahn), wheee (eeeee), no (usually “no no no no”), banana (balalala), puppy (pa), duck (da), book (buh), bow, waffle (ahhh bah), baby (babeee – just learned that one today and hasn’t stopped saying it)

* Signs (5): more (points at one palm), all done (wipes hands together), diaper (scratching motion), please (rubs chest/stomach), drink (extends arm and waves hand wildly)

* Animal noises (10): cow (oooo), pig (snorts), monkey (ahh ahh), owl (ooo ooo), bear/lion (growls/roars), lizard (sticks her tongue out repeatedly), sheep (ba ba), snake (shh noise), rooster (oodle oodle oo), fish (makes a fish face)

* Other: can point to her head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, belly, lifts her shirt up for belly button, waves bye, shakes head “no,” blows kisses, if we say “GOAL” she sticks her arm out like the refs do, sticks her arms up for “touchdown” instead of “so big,” sees something with its mouth open – she imitates it.

* Just learned but not consistent: worm (wiggles), cat (mew mew), if I ask her “where is mommy’s baby?” or “where does mommy have a baby?”, she will point at my stomach. So cute!

I am sure I forgot some of the things she can say, but it’s hard to remember them all. I feel better getting a list written down somewhere to look back on one day.

Maddie loves to throw things away and will hold our hand now.

Ok, enough bragging….here are a couple pictures.

GOAL!

Belly Button!
