Sleeping Kitties
Chuck comes home today! Ha! I didn't intend for that to rhyme. 🙂
Chuck has been gone for a week now and I am so excited he's getting home! I haven't been able to sleep with him gone. I don't know why because I don't usually have such a hard time sleeping. By usually, I mean never…I can fall asleep any time of the day, just about anywhere. But for some reason, I was an insomniac this week with him gone. So I am happy he'll be home and I feel bad for him that I am going to sleep for a couple days! But people at work are even happy he's coming back because I have been a little cranky! 🙂
I am off to Cosi to have lunch with a friend. Mostly I need to get away from my desk for a minute! If you haven't eaten at Cosi before, you should check it out! I am getting pizza today! 🙂
I have a scarf/wrap thingy that I really like but forget to wear. I have recently taken it out of hiding and decided I need more! I would love one in pink.
The shade of pink doesn't matter….but really…how can you pick between the two? I guess I want both! These are from Target and would go so nicely with a white jacket. *wink* I would love them in gray or silver, white or cream, brown (yes, I am wearing brown these days)….all the basics! 🙂 I have added these to my wish list as well.
You are probably thinking…”My goodness! This girl wants a lot of stuff.” And yes, yes I do. 🙂 This is why my wish list is on going and is always accessible throughout the year. This way, things I don't get I won't forget about and can ask for next year. It's quite useful really. Then I go back and look at it and get all excited all over again because I forgot what I put on my list! It's great! And if I get money or gift cards for Christmas, I always have ideas for what to spend it on. 🙂
This book is Living Still Life by Ryan Kurr. I have not read this book yet, but I am hoping I'll get it for Christmas. If not, I may just have to get it myself. I went to High School with the author. We didn't hang out, but my best friend in High School was great friends with him. Knowing him, I have no doubt that it will be wonderfully written book with beautiful prose, most likely something to relate to and a book you won't want to put down. I can't wait to get my hands on it and start reading!
If any of you have come across it and read it, please let me know what you thought of it!
Recently I have been wanting a white coat. I have been wearing more brown and pink, so my black won't go with brown and my red won't go with pink. At least they don't in my mind. 🙂
Here are a couple jackets I have posted on my wish list. There isn't really one I want more than the other because they are so cute, but maybe someone can decide for me! 🙂
This one is from Old Navy.
This one is from Ann Taylor.
And this one is from Target.
I will feel like a snowball! 🙂
My work decided to have a “Grazing Day” the day before Thanksgiving. This means everyone brings in food to share and you eat…ALL DAY LONG! There was so much food there. I made some cookies. I had just taken my mixer out of storage for Thanksgiving (I needed it for the potatoes) and I was hankering to bake some cookies. This is them in the bag!
I left only a couple home. This batch turned out pretty well. They were chocolate/caramel swirl chip cookies. They didn't last long at work either. So I am glad they were a hit. I even had a friend ask me if I could make her a batch of them to bring to her boyfriend. She also asked if she could claim she made them. Ha! I thought it was funny! But also a compliment to my baking. 🙂 I am also learning to take the cookies out when they are still soft. I think they don't look done, but Chuck tells me they are perfect! My grandma would be proud!
On Friday, Chuck and I went to the Minnesota Zoo and had a great time. I only took a couple pictures and they were taken with my phone since it didn't even occur to me to take my camera with me. How silly!
This first picture is of one of my new favorite animals to watch! It's a Red Panda. And it is also the Mozilla Firefox mascot. I think they picked a great animal for it! They are so cute and fun to watch. I stood there watching them for quite some time. One was eating. They were kind of hard to take good pictures of. And I didn't have a zoom on my camera or I would have gotten really good pictures of him!
This other picture is of a bald eagle. This was on the Minnesota Trail and I don't remember going on this one. I think it was closed the last time we were there. I think he was tethered to the branch he was on. The funny part is there were a couple of cats right across the isle from him. Just staring at him and probably becoming incredibly frustrated that they couldn't get to the bird and eat it! But he was very cool to see up close!
I am also fascinated by bats. I could watch them all day long! Now, mind you, if I were encountered by one of these creatures in a pace other than with glass between us, I would not be nearly as interested in them! I would run and scream and you wouldn't want to be in my way. But in a safe environment, I love them!
They have also finished the Russia exhibit with Grizzly Bears. They apparently, as we learned, do not hibernate. Just sleep. If you can wake them up, that means they are not in hibernation. Now they weren't very active by any means, but they were sleeping in a cave you can get really close to them and see the enormity of them. And that was cool!
The cool weather also made all of the cats very active…even the ones that weren't being taunted by eagles! And Chuck and I both love watching the cats. They are such amazing creatures!
The dolphins aren't doing any more shows for a while because one of them is pregnant. So keep that in mind if you want to see a show. 🙂 And the Baboons with the red butts just had a baby and there are a couple that are only a year old. They were fun to see and so very tiny! They made me laugh. They imitate everything the older monkeys do!
Overall, I think you should go! It was fun even though it was cold out. When we are in Omaha for Christmas we are already planning on going to the zoo. I can't get enough of those animals!
Oh, and Happy December!
We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. We got to eat lots of food and spend time with family. What could be better? 🙂 We even got the tree up and my brother's girlfriend helped me put the ornaments on it. We did some planning for what to get people for Christmas and I got to show off my new car. 🙂 Chuck and I even went to the zoo on Friday. That was so much fun. I could hang out all day staring at the animals. I'll do another post on that soon.
Today we are just catching up on cleaning and getting ready for the week. Chuck will be leaving on Wednesday for Redmond, Washington for work and I have some things planned with friends and family.
One thing I have planned is to see a concert by Toby Lightman.
She is one of my favorite singers and I kind of stumbled upon her accidentally. We were are at an O.A.R. concert and she opened for them and sang on one of their cds. I have been hooked ever since! My mom and step dad are going to come to the concert with me and one of my friends might end up meeting us there. But I am so excited! I might have to get myself a t-shirt or something. I would bring my cd to get signed, but I have no idea where it is packed! 🙂
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, too. And on that note, I think I need some leftovers! 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We have a fun-filled few days coming up. My dad and step mom are coming over today for Thanksgiving dinner and tomorrow we're having my mom, step dad, brothers and my brother's girlfriend over. They are getting lasagna. Then for Christmas, I make Thanksgiving dinner for my mom and crew and my dad and step mom get the lasagna. It's been working well for the past couple years. 🙂 And I like having people over. Saturday we are going to Chuck's mom's house and Sunday we have no plans! I think we'll need that day for recuperation!
When I first had people over for Thanksgiving I was looking forward to making everything except the turkey. That's a lot of pressure. At least in my mind. Then I heard about this little life saver!
This is a Oven-Ready Turkey in a Bag by Jennie-O. We get the whole turkey and it's so easy. Just stick in the oven frozen and go. (I just put mine in a couple minutes ago.) They have a couple different flavors and they come in the freezer section. They also make just breasts which would be nice for an everyday meal or a small gathering.
That's my Thanksgiving tip. I have some Schminke Stuffing to make (Chuck's mom's side of the family) and potatoes, but I am not even stressed a little! 🙂 Just very excited to eat until I explode! 🙂
Chuck and I put our tree up today, so while I am waiting for it to be closer to time to make more food, I am going to start decorating the tree! Oh, and we took our house off the market for the holidays. It's just not fun to keep it clean this time of year and we wouldn't want to move in the winter anyway. So we'll put it back on the market in February. (Just a little update!) Enjoy your Turkey Day!
My friend sent this to me the other day. She knows my love…I mean enormous dislike of pugs. How nice of my friends to think of me. 🙂
