A couple months back I read “The 5th Wave” for book club. I started into it while I was on the plane headed to my friends' wedding. That was a terrible idea. First, here's a little about the book:
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
In the first chapters of the book, planes drop out of the sky, people are dying left and right and I was not sure I could keep reading, seeing as I was on a plane and away from my family and all. I did stick it out, though and even considered reading the next two in the series. It was a good book with a new twist on the alien invasion stories I have seen or read. There was a lot of action and an interesting plot.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and if you are into sci-fi books/genres and young adult series, I think you would like this book. I have the other books in the series on my list to read some day, but I have taken a break from them for now. Please let me know if you read the whole series and what you think of it!
Happy reading!
