What Alice Forgot

Posted on September 3, 2015September 3, 2015 by Andi
Yesterday I told you about the most recent book by my current favorite author. Well, Liane Moriarty is a close second right now. “What Alice Forgot” was the first one of her books that I read. It took me a little bit to get into, but once I finished it, I promptly put all her other books on hold at the library and have been reading them as soo as they become available. Here's a little about the book:

Alice Love is twenty-nine, crazy about her husband, and pregnant with her first child.

So imagine Alice’s surprise when she comes to on the floor of a gym (a gym! She HATES the gym) and is whisked off to the hospital where she discovers the honeymoon is truly over — she’s getting divorced, she has three kids, and she’s actually 39 years old. Alice must reconstruct the events of a lost decade, and find out whether it’s possible to reconstruct her life at the same time. She has to figure out why her sister hardly talks to her, and how is it that she’s become one of those super skinny moms with really expensive clothes. Ultimately, Alice must discover whether forgetting is a blessing or a curse, and whether it’s possible to start over…

I had a lot going on when I first started reading this book so it took me a while to get into it. But once I did, I was hooked. I love Liane's writing style. She's a very a visual writer and you feel like you are right there. I will admit that I was angry through a lot of the book. I was actually kind of angry with the characters up until the prologue. The story was great and Alice learned a lot about herself (and her family and friends) while she lost her memory. I was so hopeful during the book and the characters just kept letting me down.

But like I said, the ending redeemed the whole book and started my rampage for her books. I am now on my 4th book of hers and I am loving it already! There's something about the way she tells the story from so many different angles that is so intriguing. Other authors have done this before, it's not new, but the way she executes it….so good!

If you've never read one of her books, I highly recommend you go read one. And you have been warned…you will probably continue on and read them all. 🙂

Happy reading!
