I have been wanting new rollerblades for quite some time. I used to have a pair, but I have no idea where they went. And with all the trails around our neighborhood I knew I had to get some. So Chuck and I went out on Thursday and got these beauties for me!
Now, I want to hear nothing about the fact that they are purple (I wish they were pink) because kids skates happen to come in colors such as purple. I think they are really cute, though. They fit well and that's what really counts. (Chuck got new ones, too.)
So yesterday I wanted to give them a try. I went around in the driveway while lunch was cooking and thought the guy at the store was crazy when he said these weren't very fast. HA! They are *plenty* fast for me! Which is evident by the lovely huge road rash on my very upper thigh. I considered taking a picture of it, but it's a bit awkward. I can't even see all of it without looking in a mirror.
We were heading down a trail neither of us had been on before and it was a little steeper than I thought. I was doing ok…then lost my balance slightly and knew what was coming. Chuck had turned down the trail (where I should have turned) just in time to see me go splat! He knew it was going to hurt, but I was a trooper. I didn't cry and was bound to keep going. Chuck knew better and made me go home. This was after only about 5 minutes of rollerblading. Ugh!
I felt fine all the way home and then when I took my skates off it hit me…OUCH!!! Man did it hurt. Chuck could see how badly I hurt it…I could not. So he knew I had to get in the shower and clean it up. That is just cruel punishment. I just fell, why torture myself with soap and water? So then we hunted our records to see when my last tetanus shot was…no clue. So we run over to the Target Clinic to get me a shot and make sure my cuts looked ok.
Even with all the pain of the shower, I was told a I did a great job cleaning it. So thanks, Chuck for forcing me to use soap! 🙂 Then I got my shot…so my arm now hurts on top of that. I hit my hands and so the fleshy part under my thumbs are sore…one more so than the other, I can't sit well because it hurts, I am bandaged like crazy…Then we met some friends for dinner and a movie (which were planned prior to my incident, but I wanted to go anyway).
I made it through, I just walked a little slowly. But my ego was hurt more than anything. But I am not discouraged by this…if I weren't so darn sore, I would be back on those things today. Chuck has highly advised against it. 🙂
Today I am doing a little better, but the medicine isn't working as well as yesterday. I clearly don't have the adrenaline that I did yesterday from it. I have a kink in my neck from sleeping funny last night since this is on my left side…which I sleep on. And also woke up feeling quite congested. Oh…and the doctor told me to wash my cuts in the shower this morning…with soap and a washcloth. Sounds like a good idea in theory. But oh man! Those people are just pain prescribers! That hurt worse than falling! I am a mess to say the least! 🙂 But I am still smiling and laughing at myself.
Hope you have a less eventful 4th of July! 🙂
