Ok. So after I played with Library Thing a little more, I realized you can only add a certain number of books for free. So I decided to do a little more sleuthing to see to what else was out there.
I came across Good Reads.
This is a very large community out there of book lovers. What I haven't been able to figure out is if recommendations are given on the books you have read like Library Thing did. I am not sure it will be a deal breaker if it doesn't, since it is free and you can add as many books as you want.
It's quite easy to use and I was able to import my list I started from Library Thing into it. That way I didn't have to enter them all again. I did re-rate them since that didn't transfer over with the importing.
That being said. It has a lot of pros, but I wasn't completely satisfied. So I did a little more looking.
I came across another site I am really in love with. It's called Shelfari.
Share a book review on Shelfari, where this reader meets fellow readers.
Chuck has taught me a lot about user interfaces and how appealing and easy things can be when they are done well.
I love that this site places all your books on a book shelf. You can even modify the wood your shelf is made of. Now, yes, Good Reads also displays your books in this layout, but they aren't sitting on a book shelf!
Another thing I like about it is the way you add your books. I have chosen to allow it to ask me a number of questions when I add a book. Why? Because you can choose if you are reading it, plan to read it reading it currently, can rank it there, then you can add if you own it or if it's on your wish list, then gives you similar books by that author or books like it at the end you might like to read before adding it.
You can skip a lot of those steps, but I like being able to categorize them. You can then look at the books on your shelf based on this.
When adding a book, you also have a chance to give a review or description of the book for others to see. You can also make note if you have loaned this book to someone and who has it and what condition it was in when you gave it to them. Of course, that cannot be viewed by anyone other than yourself. But what a neat idea.
Both sites allow you to add “tags” to the books you added so you can categorize them. I have not utilized this feature yet.
Shelfari is a newer product, so they are adding new features to it and appear to be receptive to user's ideas and suggestions. I also found it took me slightly longer to find things and navigate on their website than Good Reads. But once I found it, I had a bit of a “DUH” moment.
As I said, Good Reads has a larger community than Shelfari, so there are more book opinions. They both have a lot of groups to join and this might be the replacement for the recommendations that Library Thing has. But not having the recommendations will not be a deal breaker for me. Because Good Reads and Shelfari are free and that wins out. But I am still trying them out and deciding what I like best.
So has anyone out there used either of these? Do you have opinions or thoughts on them that might be useful?
And since I have not completely decided which one I am using, I have been importing new books I add to each of them. But before too long, I hope I'll pick one that I like better and stick to just one. 🙂
Help help help….I would love to start drinking tea and I need some suggestions. I want a tea to drink hot since I don't want to drink so much hot chocolate this fall. What tea would you recommend to a non-tea drinker? I would like something light and fruity. I have tried some Crystal Light tea flavors and like them. I tried a green tea cranberry pomegranate flavor and thought it was awful! Maybe it needed to be sweetened? I have no idea! See why I need help? I also saw a white tea pomegranate blueberry flavor that has gotten rave reviews online. Anyone tried it?
If you sweeten your tea, do you use sugar? honey? I have no clue! 🙂
Any suggestions are so very welcomed!

Edited to add: I am going to be modifying this post a bit. (Or probably doing another one with what I have learned.) So if you are interested in starting an account, hold off until you hear what I have to say about other sites. I may have been too hasty in my choice!
My sister-in-law had told me about this site a while back and I just recently remembered to check it out.
It's called Library Thing.
You add books you have read, rate them, and then it shows you tons of people that have read them, what they rated them and gives you new book recommendations. There's a lot more you can do with it, but those are the basics.
I can't remember most of the books I have read, so I am going to add more when I have time to add books from my book shelf. Then I'll have a better collection. My collection is pretty pathetic right now. 🙂
Since school is starting in just a few weeks, I want to make a resolution to try to read a little bit before I go to bed. Just to keep reading books that aren't school related and because I do love reading, I just don't make myself do it enough. So hopefully this site can give me some good suggestions on books to read.
Are there any books you have read this summer that I should look into reading?
*Please note*…I have not read the Harry Potter or Twilight series and don't have big plans to read them in the near future. I know everyone has read them and loved them. But I don't need it suggested to me here…since I already know. 🙂
Happy reading!

I am quite behind getting a post about a fun night we had a couple weeks ago, but it will be worth the wait!
We had some friends over for an Iron Chef themed dinner. This was a friend's idea. I was not creative enough to come up with this on my own. Since we were hosting it, I got to pick the ingredient. And I had a terrible time thinking outside the box for this one. I couldn't think of anything that would work for a main course and dessert. Because if I pick steak…how well does that really go on a pastry? Or chocolate on chicken for a first course? Even after watching tons of Iron Chef shows, I was struggling to make it work in my head. So I went with something easy.
I picked STRAWBERRIES.
It was so much fun! One couple brought a strawberry cake for dessert which was so yummy!
We were going to make a strawberry salad since I couldn't find ANYTHING that had strawberries in it for a main dish. I was just going to grill and make something to go with the salad.
Well our other friends out did themselves! (Also the ones that picked having an Iron Chef theme.) They brought homemade crackers (graham crackers and some other delicious concoction). And he made them all from scratch and grows his own wheat for flour for them!
They also made homemade salsas. One was a spicy strawberry one and the other was a chunkier fruity salsa. Both very tasty with the crackers!
They had also planned to make a salad, so they kind of took over the kitchen and tossed in all sorts of fruits, their home grown lettuce to go with the spinach we had and homemade salad dressing…with strawberries in it, of course! It was so pretty. I HAD to take a picture! (Or two!)
They also brought homemade housewarming gift jams for us and our cake-bringing friends who also recently purchased a new house.
On top of all of this, I was also given my very own handmade hula hoop! It's so pretty and so much fun. We played with them in the yard. (They brought some of their own, too!)
These were also the friends we played this game with.
Clearly we had a great time getting together for this meal! I want to make this a monthly or every other month event with these friends and stick to the Iron Chef theme. It was so much fun and they are always an entertaining group!
I had to go to my orientation / registration for Fall semester at the U of M this morning. I felt like such a dork! Thankfully there were some people there closer to my age since everyone there was a transfer student from somewhere else. But after a bunch of blah blah talking, we were carted off in follow-the leader form to another office for more blah blah talking with out university bookstore bags in hand with our welcome goodies. Yep…I'm a dork! 🙂
But I had forgotten how much I love the U campus. It's so pretty. And I was happy to discover that I remembered how to get places on campus….since I had to do a little sleuthing while I was there.
I still have a couple things to do in preparation, but I left there feeling more excited than when I got there. The feeling of throwing up everywhere freaking out passed a bit. It's scary for me to think about going back to school after being out for 6+ years.
But with the support of my wonderful hubby, family and friends…I am going to embrace this new adventure with open arms!
Go Gophers!
1. Orientation and Registration at the UofM!
2. Half day at work due to said orientation/registration
3. I love the UofM campus.
4. My UCard turned out cute. It's like getting a driver's license photo…they never turn out! I was happy!
5. Favre signing to the Vikings. It makes this year interesting! 🙂 (And Chuck was right when he said Favre was going to come!)
My red day lilies started to bloom today!
And my fabulous hubby sent me this picture of them and I got it just as I was leaving work! It made me smile! He is wonderful!
When we bought all the flowers and plants for our landscaping, I was a little worried that these red lilies might not bloom until next year. When we purchased them, none of them had even begun to flower. But I was jumping up and down giddy so happy that all six of the plants are starting to bloom!
All of our new plants are growing quite well and sprouting new growth. The Black Eyed Susans sure tell you when they need water. Man, do they look sad when they are thirsty! We still haven't finished up the mulch, but I should really take some pictures of the plants while they still have flowers on them!
*Making a note to myself right now to do that!*
