Skiing

Posted on March 2, 2008January 10, 2012 by Andi

In a few days we are headed to Vail for a ski trip and Paige wanted all of us to have helmets. This is the one I picked for myself.

I am sure you aren't surprised by the “pinkness” of it! I also got some boot heaters installed in my ski boots. It's going to be a new experience to feel my toes while I ski. I am hoping it's much more enjoyable. I am very excited.

Chuck and I also both picked up a couple new pairs of shoes at REI and I can't wait to wear them! I got a kids pair of tennis shoes and a kids clearance pair of keens. I love that I fit into kids shoes! What a good deal! 🙂

No Siesta….Fiesta en Mexico!

Posted on February 4, 2008January 11, 2012 by Andi

We just got back from our trip to Mexico. We had a wonderful time and even more wonderful weather. It was in the 80s and sunny and it only rained for about 2 minutes one afternoon. We stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace. They have a number of resorts at Barcelo and Maya Palace was the newest addition. It was just gorgeous there! There aren't any doors on the hotel. It's all open when you come in. This is the same where the rooms are. It's like an outdoor mall everywhere. There's one restaurant that is open like that, too…just huge windows open to the outdoors. And they even have an outdoor theater. There are tons of fountains everywhere. Even outside the rooms! There are covered grass walkways…those were my favorites!

I thought I would include a few pictures. I could have added a lot more, but I had to stop somewhere! 🙂

Here's a picture of us next to an enormous waterfall wall.

Waterfall Wall

This is a picture of the lobby when you walk in.

Barcelo Lobby

This is behind the lobby desk. It's all tiled and it's a big dragon on the wall. There was tile everywhere! It's probably the easiest to clean. They were cleaning the floors all the time with all the sand around, but you never noticed the floors being sandy!

Dragon

Chuck, his dad, his grandpa and his cousin went golfing one day. They lost a lot of golf balls, but had fun! A few of us went to Playa Del Carmen for some shopping one day. 11 of us went snorkeling one day (Grandma and Hannah stayed back) and had grilled steak and lobster on the boat. The guides put a couple poles out and caught a barracuda. That was very cool to see!

This is a picture of the barracuda the guide caught while we were coming back from snorkeling.

Barracuda

And this is a picture of a barracuda that was HUGE and swimming around when Chuck was snorkeling. Thankfully he didn't see it. I didn't get my camera turned on fast enough when he was right under me, so this is a bad picture. But I promise that is what it is!

Barracuda2

This map cracked us up! The red arrow says “you are here” but we are actually standing where Chuck's finger is! How funny!

Barcelo Map

We spent a lot of time just hanging around the resort, sitting by the pools, playing in the ocean, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling….and of course eating!

Chuck had a lot of fun climbing around on this big inflatable iceberg out in the ocean. I was no good at climbing it! And no this isn't Chuck on it, I just thought you might want to see how big it was!

Iceberg

Another picture I wanted to point out was the following. It was pitch black out and Chuck took this with some setting on my camera. I didn't realize it was so dark out when he showed me the picture! We took lots more of these that night!

Night Pic

This was in the dark, too but this gazebo was lit wth blue lights.

Blue Night

I had to throw in one picture of the grass covered walkway that I loved so much!

Grass Walkway

There are more night photos on pages 10 & 11 of the gallery that I really think are cool!

This is a painting we got on the last night we were there. It's an oil painting the guy did with his hands on tile.

Tile Art

On the last night we were there we went to a show at the outdoor theater. It was a very interesting show with great costumes. It was called “Mexico Prehispanico.” The part that was horrible ( and made at least 2/3 of the people leave) was a whistle that a guy was blowing all the time….into a microphone. On the last page of my gallery, there are two videos at the very end of this show if you want to see it. And we did end up leaving the show as well.

Oh, and the title is from one afternoon when I was napping in a hammock. One of the activity people wanted me to play Bingo. I told him, “No, it's nap time!” He says, “No siesta, Fiesta en Mexico!” Since it was so amusing I had to use it as my title!

I will post my gallery of the trip below and after the rest of the family get their pictures uploaded, I will get them added here as well!

My Second Pen!

Posted on January 22, 2008January 10, 2012 by Andi

I am a bit funny when it comes to wood. Most people want to find the most perfect piece…not me. I want to find the strangest piece of wood with the most imperfections. I think they have so much more character. I like the knots and the strange colors in wood. So this second pen was perfect! I was so pleased with the colors in it! I also took a picture of the two pens together.

This is a picture of the first pen I turned. I am so proud of myself and so happy with how it turned out! These are two pictures of the same pen, just on different sides. I couldn’t decide which picture I liked better of it! Enjoy!

Hockey

Posted on January 13, 2008 by Andi

One of the boys on Chuck's hockey team quit and his mom was our team manager. I volunteered to take over the job. So this makes me the Mound/Westonka Pee Wee C Team Manager! How fun! I even got myself a pink binder to keep my stuff in! We have lots of games coming up, so I'll be busy! I am excited. I am at almost all the games…I may as well be involved!

Wood Turning

Posted on January 12, 2008January 11, 2012 by Andi

I have a new hobby. And yes, it is something other than stamping. I can hardly believe that! I have starting turning wood. This is where you take a piece of wood and it spins and you shape it. You can make pens, bowls, all sorts of fun things. My hubby’s step mom does it and that’s where I saw it. Then his dad got me the tools for Christmas. We made a little wood shop for me in the basement. It’s just wonderful. This picture is of some pen tubes I turned. These were the first ones I did and they turned out great. I am quite impressed. I have just watched people and videos and this was my first go at! I am sure you will be seeing more of these in the future. Enjoy!

Christmas in January?

Posted on January 6, 2008 by Andi

Yep. We had our last Christmas event yesterday at Chuck's mom's house. It was a lot of fun. We celebrated chuck's birthday and I made him a cake. (The first cake I have ever made…I usually do cupcakes.) It was called Strawberry Explosion. It consisted of Strawberry cake, strawberry cool whip and real strawberries, another layer of strawberry cake and then covered in strawberry icing. I was told it was very good! 🙂 I don't think it looked all that pretty, but as long as it tasted good, that's what matters!

I wanted to post links to the Christmas galleries of our celebrations. So here you go….if you are interested!

I forgot to take pictures at the Schminke house this year for Christmas. But I am sure there are plenty of pictures to keep you occupied for a while! Enjoy! 🙂

Happy New Year!

Posted on January 2, 2008 by Andi

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We had my mom, step dad, brother's and Adam's girlfriend over today for a birthday celebration (For Chuck…who had his birthday today and for Charlie), Thanksgiving dinner and present opening! It was loads of fun. I will get a link to those pictures once I get them uploaded and probably after posted after our last Christmas celebration so I can post them all at once.

Also, we went to our friends' house last night for some New Year's festivities. HERE is a link to the gallery with pictures. We played some Guitar Hero and after midnight, the boys put on comfy clothes (they changed out of their nice stuff) to go play snow football. This was the second annual game. There are a ton of pictures from last year that I took, so I only took a couple this time. They really didn't look that much different from last years. 🙂 Except for the fact that none of the girls played this year. 🙂

Well, I am off to play with my new toy (mmmm….MacBook) some more! I wish you a wonderful year to come!

My New Toy!!!

Posted on December 31, 2007January 10, 2012 by Andi

My dear, sweet, wonderful, thoughtful and sneaky husband got me a MacBook! That's correct. You heard right! A MacBook! I have been drooling over these for so long! And after we got iPhones, I knew I wanted one someday. It's been under the tree for weeks….and I didn't have a clue! I am so very excited!!!! I just wanted to share my happiness with the world! Oh, and he got me a pink case for it! How very fun! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We have two more coming up.

We have had a wonderful Christmas so far and I can hardly believe that we aren't done! And….we're going to a friend's house for New Year's tonight. So I have to get to baking a cake for Chuck! Happy birthday to him (in the birthday tune of course) after the ball drops! Have a great night and stay safe!

Hannah Sophia Christenson

Posted on December 27, 2007 by Andi

I wanted to share some wonderful news! My friend Katie and her husband, Chris welcomed a new baby girl, Hannah Sophia to their family on December 22, 2007 at 6:42 AM. She was 7 pounds 5 ounces and 20.5 inches long….and she has red hair! She is so very adorable! As soon as I went out of town for Christmas, Hannah was born, so I had to take a drive to Katie's to see Hannah today. I have included a bunch of pictures I took. She slept the whole time I was there, but I was told she is very attentive when she's awake! I also took a couple pictures of their son, Caleb. He is quite proud of his new little sister! (There's a picture of their tree, too because I had to see what their tree skirt I made them last year looked like on it!)
