andi's big adventure

Posted on September 16, 2010 by Andi

One day last weekend I was so tired. I think it was Sunday. So after lunch I told Chuck I was going to nap for a few minutes and to wake me up in a little while.

As soon as I fell asleep, my wonderful hubby takes some pictures of me! 🙂

I especially love how my hair is covering my face.

After he woke me up, I noticed I had left a nice pile of drool on the couch. Wow…I'm sexy while I'm pregnant! 🙂

I tried this meal and I was pleasantly surprised. The meat was really good and the flavor was better than I expected. I will definitely try this again and other meals that they make. I have already spotted a few other meals that are similar to this that I would like to try!

HERE is a link to the website for this meal.

I was in bed last night watching tv and the baby was kicking like crazy. I took Chuck’s hand to try to get him to feel it, but it’s still just kicks I can feel. I was really hoping that he would be able to feel them. I know he’s a patient person, but I will be so excited when he can feel the baby move, too!

The last couple days the Eagan bus I take has been a small bus. Therefore I have been stuck standing. I can’t believe that no one offered to let me sit down. Oh well…I’ll remedy the situation tomorrow by taking a different bus. 🙂

I picked this book up from the clearance rack at a bookstore. I'm not sure what made it stand out…maybe I liked the cover or something. Either way, I think it was only $4 or something. I was sure it was going to be horrible since it was on the clearance rack. I was wrong.

This was a pretty good book. I was pleasantly surprised. The writing made me laugh many times and the main character was quite likable. It was a cute summer read and I think I am going to loan it to a friend who might like it!

I am not sure you can find this one at the bookstores (but I haven't looked), but I am sure you can find it online or possibly at the library.

This book was pretty mindless and humorous. So if that's what you are looking for…pick this one up!

Happy reading!

WAY back in January, Chuck went on a business trip out to Seattle. This time, I was lucky enough to get to go out there on the tail end of it and stay for a few short, but much needed days of vacation.

I finally got around to sorting out all of the pictures I took. Unfortunately, I know there are a few that are missing. I have no idea where they might be. It's quite strange. If for some reason I come across them, I will update this post.

Chuck and I don't really sit still on vacations. If you know Chuck at all, he doesn't sit still well at all in general. It's a good thing. It keeps me from being a slug and sitting on the couch all the time!

HERE is the gallery with all of the pictures I took found.

talent is overrated

Posted on September 12, 2010January 30, 2011 by Andi

This was a really interesting book. Chuck had read it and told me I should read it. I have always had fears about trying new things and thinking that I wasn't good at them. This book really emphasized that you can do anything…it just takes a long time and hard work to become excellent at it.

There were many studies done on various types of people and in different careers. It took a look at how many hours a master spent on their given trade and how that compared to that of the average person. It was astounding. Most of these “masters” (i.e. Tiger Woods, chess players, sports players) started at very young ages and spent many hours perfecting their trade. And it wasn't just the “easy” stuff they practiced. They focused the majority of their time on things they weren't exceptional at so they would get better at it.

It was just a fascinating book to read. If you've ever wondered about the nature vs. nurture debate, check out this book. Basically, it says you aren't born with something, but you may be born into a family that helps you excel at something. But there is also something possibly born in you that gives you the ability to work this hard on a given task.

I liked this book. It was a little text-book-y at times, but the overall idea kept me interested until the end.

Happy reading.

weeknight lasagna toss

Posted on September 11, 2010 by Andi

I found this recipe, or maybe it found me…I can't remember. But I was excited that the only thing I didn't have on hand for it was a green pepper. So when I went to the store I picked one up and I am SO glad that I did.

This was a really simple meal. Think Hamburger Helper, but not out of a box.

First you brown some hamburger.

Then add in the peppers and garlic (I also added some onion powder and I might just throw in some freshly chopped onions next time).

Then you add the sauce and water. The water helps the noodles cook without eating up all the sauce!

Next, you have to break up some lasagna noodles (which proved to be the messiest part since pieces went everywhere). Next time I make this, I will make the pieces a little smaller than I did this time because I ended up cutting them up slightly before I ate them.

Cover and let simmer for a while.

Then add some cheese and devour!

I took a huge helping and ate it all. Chuck went back for seconds and then had the leftovers the next day.

Needless to say, this meal was a hit and I'll definitely make it again.

I am always weary to try new meals, but more times than not, I end up liking them and I am glad I took the plunge to actually read the instructions (in order) and make it turn out right. So I am hoping I can put the billions of cookbooks and cooking magazines to good use. I just have to had a little dedication and plan ahead at the grocery store.

What I really need to do is go back to having a calendar on the fridge with the meals for the week. When we did that, we ate much better and were able to see, on paper, how much we went out to eat.

Moral of this blabbing post…make this meal. Your family will love you.

a walk in the woods

This was a very interesting book. I hadn't read anything by Bill Bryson until this book. Bryson write about his travels. He has a very consistent writing style thrown in with some humor. There's also a lot of history mixed in….at least in this book.

This was all about his journey on the Appalachian Trail. So there was a lot of history about the trail itself, the mountains, the animals, and hikers on the trail. It was kind of like reading a history book, but MUCH more enjoyable! 🙂

I have a couple more of his books on hand to read and I am looking forward to them. I have a feeling that they will be equally enjoyable.

If you are looking for something that is laid back, but might also teach you a little something, I would definitely recommend reading this book!

Happy reading.

I finally got around to working on my website and adding some baby things to it. I have been putting it off for so long. But once I start working on it, I remember how much fun it is!

Two weeks from today we find out if this baby is a boy or a girl! I am so excited to find out! I hope the baby is cooperative for the ultrasound!

A coworker found out she is having a boy today! She really wanted a girl, but her husband is beyond ecstatic to be having a boy! 🙂
