Divergent

July 16, 2014Books0
I finished Divergent a couple weeks ago. I was really excited for it because I liked some of the other young adult trilogies in the same genre (The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner) but for some reason I was having a terrible time getting through this one. It could have been because I had...

BOY!!! I am still in shock. Last night we found out that baby #3 is a boy. I was sure we were going to have another girl. On Wednesday morning we had my 20 week ultrasound. The baby was healthy and everything looked great. We had the ultrasound person put the gender in an envelope...

Dancing Queen

For the last couple months or so, Maddie has been asking (and asking and asking) if she can take a “bannerina” (ballerina) class. So I found a local place that had some summer sessions and signed her up. To say she was excited would be an understatement.  Here are a few pictures. The parents can...

First, I will start by saying that I’m a bit of a freak. I knew that one day I would want at least three kids. So when I made a Twitter account for Maddie (@microhays) I knew that I should make one for possible subsequent children. Not knowing what the future would hold, I created...

For June, my book club did a “choose your own book”. Covet was my pick. This book is by Tracey Garvis Graves. She wrote On The Island and I really liked that book, so I had a feeling I would like this one as well. Here’s a little about the book: What if the life...

Maddie has really long hair. And I haven’t had the heart to cut it yet, so she still has some baby curls. This long hair can get quite tangled and she is very sensitive when I am trying to brush her hair. So I found a deal on a Knot Genie hairbrush. When I first...

Kid Toilet Seat

Back when we decided to seriously start potty training Maddie, we decided to get this toilet seat for our bathroom on the main floor. I loved that I didn’t have an extra seat to put on the toilet, take off and clean and I never cared much for the potty seats where I had to...

Here is my first book I read in 2021. This is one Here is my first book I read in 2021. This is one of our book club picks. I listened to this, read a summary and still just didn’t love it. It wasn’t bad, but not my favorite either. I actually liked it better after hearing the ending. I can’t really say what it was exactly that I didn’t like about it. The story was interesting, the characters were good, it just didn’t do anything for me.

This is actually a well-known and popular book. Have you read it? What are your thoughts?

I’m probably going to get lots of comments about I’m probably going to get lots of comments about my thoughts on this book, but I thought it was just ok. The beginning pulled me right in and I wanted to consume it all. I was excited to learn more and see where the book went. But then a few chapters JB, I had to force myself to keep reading. I found myself skimming and just waiting for the point.

Don’t get me wrong. There were parts that I loved. Parts I highlighted to remember and moments I thought I might like the book as a whole.

After talking with a friend, I realized what I didn’t like was that it felt like a bunch of jumbled blog posts thrown into a book. Had I known this was going to be the point (random “entries” over years of her life) maybe I would have had a different outlook.

Overall, I didn’t connect with it. I was really hoping to love my last book of the year, but found myself wanting it to be done just so I could contribute in book club. Oh well, can’t love them all!

True story of why I’m a nutcase. While sitting o True story of why I’m a nutcase. While sitting on the boat recently, watching the kids play and listening to the house be built, I panicked. Crap! We should have put our house the other way. Left side on the right, right side on the left. That tree will be in our way! WHAT HAVE WE DONE?!
.
So I immediately text Chuck who is working and tell him about how I am worried almost to tears about this. That we messed up.
.
It isn’t something we can do anything about even if we maybe should have done it the other way, which is probably nonsense. But we love this tree. And it’s going to add to our amazing view. And I want to plant another one on the other side one day anyway. And that big open spot will have a deck and porch behind the main floor garage. And what...I may have to turn my head slightly to see the lake better?🙄
.
Yep. I’m a nutcase. I don’t worry about the things right in front of me. Or even things I should worry about. Nope. Just things that can’t be changed...now that’s where my worry shines! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤪
