Garden Update

Posted on August 12, 2011October 22, 2012 by Andi

My garden is flourishing! I am quite surprised I made anything edible at all. I don’t consider myself much of a green thumb.

I was talking to my brother about gardens and he told me I should probably pull my potatoes. I pulled one to see how it was and before I knew it, I had yanked them all up! I grew lots of potatoes!

I wasn’t sure how many potatoes I was going to get. I got between 1 and 4 potatoes from every plant I pulled. Most were fairly small…good cooking size, but a couple were about the size of my fist.

The bowl I brought outside to collect them was too small!

Here they are all cleaned up. Well, minus the ones that were already in the oven cooking for dinner.

I even had a couple funny looking ones….can you spot them from the above picture?

I grew a duck.

And a penguin. Or bear. Or snowman. Or something.

I made some roasted potatoes for dinner that night. I put them in a bowl and mixed them with some olive oil, salt, pepper and rosemary…which was also from my garden!

Then spread them out on a baking pan and cooked them right up! When they were done cooking, I sprinkled some parmesan cheese over the top of them. Chuck loved them!

I made some chicken from Let’s Dish and it was one tasty little dinner!

I even had enough for leftovers for the following day.

The next night, I made Crash Hot Potatoes. These are basically boiled potatoes, smashed, put on a pan and baked until crunchy. I also got to use my rosemary for these little guys. Then I served them with an Apple Bourbon Pork Tenderloin I had in the freezer. Yum.

Night three, I made Cheeseburger Meatloaf (note, I added some Worcestershire sauce to the meatloaf and to the ketchup topping…because I love Worcestershire sauce) and mashed potatoes. I didn’t take a picture of this meal, but I promise you…it was delicious! And I have some leftovers to eat!

I still have a couple potatoes left to eat, but I think I’ll have those for lunch…just a little baked potato.

Now, because I know you haven’t had enough of my garden yet….here’s a few more pictures.

My hot peppers are starting to look yummy. I planted a hot pepper variety, so I don’t know what I am going to get. My dad says these are Banana Peppers. I think it’s funny that they grow straight up!

My green peppers are starting to look cute! I have just a couple so far, but a lot more flowers ready to grow some peppers for me!

My tomato plants have tons of tomatoes on them. I’m just waiting for them to ripen up so I can give lots of them away and make some salsa!

My carrots are about ready to be picked. I let the neighbor boys pick a couple of the little ones and try them. They thought they were tasty!

And my onions are getting close to being ready to pick, too!

Overall, I am incredibly impressed with my garden. The majority of the things I planted, I grew from seeds. That is just amazing to me! But, if nothing else works, I am so excited that I grew potatoes….and they tasted good! Next year I may add in some red potatoes, too. I haven’t had those in a while!

Fisher Playdate

Posted on August 11, 2011 by Andi

Last weekend we went to our friends’ house to hang out and let our kids play together. Their daughter, Chelsea, is a little over 3 weeks older than Maddie. It’s so cute to watch them play together.

Here is a video of the girls playing! It’s hilarious!

Thanks for having us over to play, Fishers! Hope to see you again soon!

On The Move

Posted on August 10, 2011August 25, 2011 by Andi

Maddie is officially mobile! She goes anywhere she wants now. She likes to army crawl her way to my glasses or a laptop. I love the determination in her eyes when she is crawling to something!

Sitting Like A Big Girl

Posted on August 8, 2011August 25, 2011 by Andi

Maddie has her very own personal trainer. Did you know that? Don’t you wish you had one? Chuck’s sister, Paige, is an Occupational Therapist and likes to work with Maddie on things. Maddie is also a great guinea pig for Paige to practice on for the kids she works with. She helped work on getting her knees under her like she is doing so well in my last post. Paige is also working on sitting up with Maddie. Here’s Maddie and her personal trainer.

Maddie is sitting really well, but I won’t leave her unattended sitting. She isn’t quite strong enough and will still tip over or fall back (usually when she gets overly excited about a toy and flails wildly!).

Look how cute she is sitting! She doesn’t look big enough to do it!

Oh, I just want to kiss those cheeks! I love her so much!

Scooter

Posted on August 7, 2011August 9, 2011 by Andi

Maddie has been scooting around. She inches herself forward to get to something she wants (which is usually a cord to a laptop or a mouse). She’s really getting her feet up and her knees under her. She just needs to push onto her hands instead of her elbows….then she’s really going to move!

She rolled and scooted almost to the front door while I watched her go. Smile It was amusing.

I can’t believe how fast she is growing and how much she moves! She’s only going to get faster…and sneakier! Smile

Baby Playdate

The other day I went to visit a friend from my old job who just had a baby. Maddie was quite fascinated by baby Joslyn! They are definitely bound to be great friends!

Maddie really wanted to eat her. I’ll pretend she meant to kiss her instead of eat her! Smile

Welcome to the world baby Josyln and congrats to Danel and Darren!

Cereal

Posted on August 4, 2011 by Andi

We started giving Maddie cereal the other day. It went very well! Here is a long video of the first attempt. About 6 minutes in, she starts coughing, then sneezes and hits herself in the face with the spoon. Smile Am I a terrible mother for laughing at that?

The second day was an even bigger hit. She kept grabbing the spoon and helping put it in her mouth. She just couldn’t get enough! Of course, I didn’t get a video of it, but dad did take a couple cute pictures of her.

Then day 3, she wouldn’t stop squealing. She was squealing all day. I had to get a video of this one. Although, I apparently had my hand right in the way of her face every time I fed her. But you still see her squealing…A LOT!

I can’t wait until we start food other than cereal in another day or so!

Taggies

Posted on August 3, 2011August 1, 2011 by Andi

Chuck’s mom is fabulous at sewing. She asked me to keep my eye open for ideas for her to make things for Maddie. I suggested a Taggies blanket. Maddie is obsessed with tags on her toys. So Linda made these for her.

This little one has bells inside.

Which made me want to try making one. This is how mine turned out.

I actually made an identical one to the one above for a friend, then thought it was so cute that I made another for Maddie. For this one, there is a rattle inside it that I took out of an old stuffed animal I had when I was a kid.

Then I thought….these would make cute gifts for some other friends. So I made some for a couple friends of mine who just had babies. This is how they turned out.

And this one, I took pictures of, but I hadn’t sewn it together yet. So this one has pins in it. Smile

I put buttons inside them so they make noise. Maddie loves hers, so I hope my friends’ kids like them when they are a little older. I think these are going to be a go-to gift for me to give to new babies!

Now, Chuck’s mom also made some balls for Maddie with tags on them. She is already playing with them and chewing on them. How cool are these?

And she even has another project in the making for her and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Giggles

Here’s a video of Maddie laughing the other day. She was sitting on Chuck’s lap and he was holding out the video camera. I was just leaning towards her and she kept cracking up. I love her laugh!
