House warming gift

Posted on June 22, 2009 by Andi

my wonderful fritnd Katie got me the nicest house warming gift! She let me pick something from UpperCase Living. If you don't know what that is…you should check it out! I think they are so cool!

This is what I picked out.

This exact thing isn't in the catalog, but I think the phrase was. But I wanted two different colors and fonts, so I created one myself. It is upstairs above a built in cabinet. I have (since taking this picture) placed some frames on the built in and it looks very nice.

These words were a bit tricky to get on. Well, at least the lfowing font in brown on the bottom. The words on the top were much easier. I think it's just because of how delicate the font was. But I am very pleased with how it looks and it makes a nice addition to the house! Thanks Katie!

Next Door

Time for a house building update! (I tried to put a couple days of non-Next Door posts in here!)

After they filled in the dirt around the house, the next step was to start building. And that's just what they did. These pictures show them framing in the basement.

I was fascinated to see that they build this on the gravel they put down and didn't lay the concrete floor first. Our guess is that they are waiting to do the plumbing since much of that goes inside the concrete. But I haven't built a house or seen one done, so this is all new to me!

Getting all settled

Posted on June 16, 2009 by Andi

We are getting all settled in the new house. Most everything is put away and we are to a point where we don't feel like we HAVE to do anything around the house. We can just do it as we feel like it. That's really nice! And since we had our first guests staying with us last weekend (Chuck's grandparents) we made sure we had the guest room put together and everything looking nice and tidy! There's something about people coming over that makes me want to get things in order!

So we hung up some pictures and that really made a difference and made it feel like home. This frame shown below is from my brother and his girlfriend. They gave it to us last year for Christmas (or my birthday) and we had most of our stuff in storage. So we just got it out. I still don't have any of my own pictures in it, but it felt so nice to put things on the walls!

So when I get around to hooking up our photo printer, I'll get some pictures in it! You really can't expect me to do it ALL at once. 🙂

Mmmm….Grass!

Posted on June 15, 2009 by Andi

We finally have grass! We got it last Friday. I must say, it looks lovely. It's so nice to see such a nice big, flat lot! I'll get around to posting a picture soon! I just wanted to share my happiness!

I didn't get a chance to write this weekend because we had grandparents in town staying with us. So we spent time with them. I always love hanging out with grandparents! It's too bad we live so far away from them because I would love to see them even more! It was nice to enjoy this weekend's weather with loved ones!

Stupid Rain

Posted on June 9, 2009 by Andi

Don't get me wrong, I love when it rains. I love a good thunderstorm. But this week, the rain has delayed my sprinklers and therefore, my grass! They were going to install the sprinklers today. But since it was so wet they pushed it back until Thursday. I hope that means I will get grass on Friday, but I am not going to hold my breath. Bummer. Oh well. It is what it is. Don't mind me…I'm just giving Ms. Mother Nature a stern shaking of my fist.

Neighborhood Pool

Posted on June 9, 2009 by Andi

SOme people have inquired about what the pool will look like that is one day going to be across the street from our house. We walked over to the pool the other day and I snapped a couple pictures!

This is the shade area in the pool area.

This is what it looks like when you walk up to the pool. You can see Chuck by the gate…unlocking it so we can go inside.

This is picture of the pool from the inside.

This is another picture from inside the pool area. You can see the pool house at the far end of the picture.

The pool is 3' 10″ the whole way around. They have a bunch of pool toys there, bathrooms in the pool house and a soda machine! Love it! I love all the landscaping they do around the pool. It will be very pretty across the street from us. This pool also has a playground, basketball court, and a gazebo. As far as I know, there will only be the pool across the street from us and an open park area. But that will probably happen next year at the earliest.

It's very pretty and I would definitely take the pool over neighbors any day! 🙂 I know there will be people there, but there's something nice about sitting at night and looking at a pool instead of a house. 🙂

Next Door

Posted on June 7, 2009 by Andi

So last time I wrote about the house next door they had poured the foundation for the house. Since then, they have taken off the molds and insulated some of the walls.

If you have finished a basement before, you will know that you need to put up wall studs and then insulate the walls. Well, Lennar does something a little different. They insulate the basement from the outside. Then you don't have to insulate when you are finishing the basement. The insulation they put on the walls is probably and inch thick of the yellow stuff you see in the pictures.

I think it's so fun to watch all of this progress! I'll leave you with a funny picture of me. I am standing next to the pile of dirt/sand they dug out for the house next door. Isn't it huge?! I wanted to climb it, but it just kept sliding out from under me…stupid sand! 🙂

Next Door

Posted on June 5, 2009 by Andi

It's time for an update on the house being built next door.

After they popured the footings for the house they filled it in with “class 5” (I think that's what Chuck said it was called) AKA rocks. Then one night a big truck came by and dropped off the forms to pour the foundation.

The next day they had everything set up to pour the foundation.

I think it's fascinating how quickly they do this. But since we really do have SAND a couple feet under the ground, they need to work quickly…because sand walls only stay up for so long. You can just watch the sand fall down the sides into the bottom. I wish I would have been around to see them as they put these up. It would have been interesting to see.

*On a side note…I am going to warn you…I have created another category on the right sidebar. This is for Glendalough. Which is the neighborhood we are in. I have all sorts of things I want to include in there. For now it will be about the different houses and such. Mostly, I am doing this for an easy way to search for things related to the neighborhood at a later time. For instance, when someone moves in next door and might want to see what I have blogged about it…if they don't think I am completely insane…which I am sure they will! And just generally for things I want to keep about the neighborhood. Eventually things about the houses being built will not be online anymore (after they are all finished). And being the nosey person I am that wants to know everything about everyone's houses, I am going to post things you probably won't care about. 🙂 So beware! 🙂
