I haven’t seen these toys in person, so I don’t actually know much about them. But a friend posted this ad for them and I thought it was a great video and I wanted to share it.

Here are a couple of the products I found on Amazon.

  • The Spinning Machine
  • The Parade Float

I just love that there are some products for girls to introduce them to science. I wish I had known more about science when I was younger so I could have learned some of these cool things. Thankfully I am married to an engineer and get to learn all about this stuff and I know my girls will, too. If nothing else…I love this video and its creativity.

Bluefin Bay

Posted on November 20, 2013November 20, 2013 by Andi

Over Labor Day weekend we took a trip to the North Shore and stayed at Bluefin Bay with some friends. We have gone with them for a few years now. We almost didn’t go this year since we thought it might be hard with two toddlers and two babies (ok, they were 9 months old…not really babies), but it was so much fun and we were so glad we decided to go!

Here’s a little rundown of our trip.

We played at the park.

IMG_0768-XL

Looked adorable. Smile

IMG_0835-XL

Pretended to shoot things in the arcade.

IMG_0874-XL

Did some crafts. The girls were coloring puzzles.

IMG_0890-XL

Went swimming. They liked swimming, but they really wanted to be in the hot tub.

IMG_0907-XL

The babies were both hungry at the same time, so while we were in Grand Marais (where we did some shopping, sight seeing, rock throwing and had dinner) Trisha and I cozied up in some chairs to feed the kids while the big girls threw rocks! Lots. Of. Rocks.

IMG_0922-XL

Bluefin has free packages of s’mores, so every night we went down to the bonfire and roasted marshmallows and ate s’mores until we thought we might explode. Oh wait….that was just me. Smile

IMG_0945-XL

IMG_0954-XL

There was this goose that would not leave us alone. It was freaking the kids out. Rightfully so. Those things are big. And mean.

IMG_0962-XL

Dannie did lots of snacking. Girl likes her food.

IMG_0982-XL

There was more rock throwing. This was definitely the most favorite activity of the weekend.

IMG_1030-XL

Searching for perfect rocks.

IMG_1051-XL

This was right after Maddie and I had a tickle fight on the beach. Smile

IMG_1085-XL

IMG_1091-XL

Dannie liked the rocks, too, but her main goal was trying to eat them, so you had to keep a pretty close eye on her. Smile

IMG_1105-XL

There’s a boardwalk along the lake between the two sections of the resort. It is one of my favorite places there.

IMG_1119-XL

More crafts. Last year Maddie wanted nothing to do with rock painting. This year she was so excited and was so sad we wouldn’t let her paint more. I think she painted three. Although she may have painted more, but we only brought three home. They are on our front porch.

IMG_1142-XL

More rock throwing. I love Chelsea’s outfit in this one. These girls have such personalities and love to pick out their own clothes!

IMG_1153-XL

IMG_1171-XL

One afternoon, we took a short hike. The girls were so stinking cute the whole time! Just wait until you see the other pictures! This one just needs to be blown up and framed somewhere!

IMG_1189-XL

The dads carried the babies around in these backpacks that we rented from the resort. The kids loved them.

IMG_1199-XL

This is just because Chelsea is adorable and I love her little face!

IMG_1216-XL

IMG_1237-XL

IMG_1283-XL

There was a brief break from rock throwing to eat Cheerios.

IMG_1315-XL

The Fisher family.

IMG_1380-XL

A little North Shore family photo.

IMG_1390-XL

As we were leaving, the girls wanted to hold hands. They held hands almost all the way back to the car.

IMG_1396-XL

IMG_1407-XL

IMG_1417-XL

IMG_1431-XL

Not only can you rent backpacks, you can rent bikes, too. So we got a couple bikes and a bike trailer for the girls and took a little ride along the shore. The real reason for the ride was that I wanted some ice cream. So we thought a little exercise beforehand was a good idea. Smile

20130901_164322-XL

IMG_1446-XL

More rock throwing. I love that they both have tutus on.

IMG_1462-XL

This was what we got to wake up to every day. We had the windows cracked open so you could hear the waves crashing and the birds in the morning. I could have stayed in bed and looked at this view the whole weekend and been perfectly happy!

20130902_063525-XL

We stopped to visit Chuck’s dad on the way home and after our visit and the long, exciting, fun-filled weekend…we had two tired little girls on our hands.

20130902_142655-XL

We are so happy we were able to make the trip to Bluefin work again. I hope we get to go every year! And we are so blessed to have wonderful friends with kids the same age to share the weekend with! HERE are all the pictures from our trip.

Here are Trisha’s posts from Bluefin in case you are interested.

Iowa/Omaha

Posted on November 19, 2013November 18, 2013 by Andi

Back in August, we made a trip down to Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska to visit both sets of Chuck’s grandparents. We hadn’t been down there in a long time and since Chuck had the month off (this was when he was taking his paternity leave), it was time to take the trip down.

Luckily, Chuck’s mom was able to come with us. This meant we had an extra set of hands in the back of the car to help with the girls. She read books, gave bottles, had fun new crafts for Maddie to try….it was wonderful! Plus we were really happy we got to spend a bunch of time with her since she spends the winters in Florida.

Linda (Chuck’s mom) stayed with her parents and we set up camp at the other set of grandparents’ house. We had the whole basement to ourselves and didn’t have to worry about a bunch of stuff getting in the way at their houses.

Here’s a rundown of our trip.

Riding in the car. Grandma brought pipe cleaners and made whatever Maddie requested. This time it was a camera.

20130815_153342-XL

There were lots of walks. Usually they were spent to kill some time before a meal or to collect some goodies.

IMG_9855-XL

Sometimes we used our collected goodies for a craft project.

IMG_9892-XL

There was silliness!

IMG_9925-XL

Lots of visits to various parks.

IMG_9955-XL

IMG_9989-XL

And sliding.

IMG_0034-XL

IMG_0050-XL

And swinging.

IMG_9983-XL

And a trip to a farmer’s market where Maddie pointed out all the foods she knew.

IMG_0079-XL

And some walking hand-in-hand with great grandma Hays.

IMG_0104-XL

Playing with chains attached to walls. (We were making a pit stop to feed Dannie and Maddie decided this chain was loads of fun!)

IMG_0151-XL

We ate candy.

IMG_0165-XL

We ate ice cream cake.

IMG_0221-XL

We played with cousins.

20130817_192906-XL

We fed fish at the zoo.

IMG_0254-XL

And looked at Gorillas.

IMG_0291-XL

We waved at the underwater creatures.

IMG_0353-XL

And even got to brush goats.

IMG_0341-XL

We played in the sand.

IMG_0366-XL

IMG_0396-XL

We posed for pictures.

IMG_0383-XL

There was more swinging.

IMG_0432-XL

IMG_0476-XL

We walked across a really cool bridge between Iowa and Nebraska.

IMG_0500-XL

Played at another park…where we were surprised that Maddie fearlessly walked to the top of this slide and didn’t skip a beat and slid right down.

IMG_0542-XL

And did some more swinging.

IMG_0570-XL

We played in in the water.

IMG_0619-XL

And played dress-up at the Visitor Center.

IMG_0632-XL

Oh, and made cute faces.

IMG_0656-XL

We went to a splash pad and played in the water.

IMG_0686-XL

IMG_0726-XL

And posed for some more pictures.

IMG_0670-XL

We were able to get a pretty good family photo of us (considering the kids weren’t in the mood for photos) with grandma and grandpa Schminke (Chuck’s mom’s parents) before we left.

20130820_093141-XL

Then we drove home and grandma made more of Maddie’s requests out of pipe cleaners. This time it was glasses! Smile

20130820_102246-XL

We had a wonderful trip and it was so fun to bring the girls when they could enjoy many of the fun things there. And it was fun to explore some of the things we’ve never done before. Playing at parks and running around splash pads is usually questionable behavior without children in tow.

Believe it or not, there are actually a bunch of pictures I left out from the trip. If you want to take a look at the ones that didn’t make the cut, HERE is a link to all the pictures from our trip.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Posted on November 10, 2013 by Andi

Last week was my birthday. 33 years old young! It was also our 9 year anniversary. I got to celebrate all week long! Monday I got to spend the morning with a dear friend and her kiddos. Tuesday I hosted a MOPS playdate at my house and in the evening, some of my wonderful neighbor friends took me to dinner at Chevy’s. We had so much fun!

Chevy’s makes the yummiest peach margaritas!

20131105_201545

My friends made sure I was thoroughly embarrassed with songs, dessert and a sombrero!

20131105_202741

On Wednesday (my actual annibirthary) I saw some friends in the morning and had a really nice chat with a new friend. Then the girls and I went to Chuck’s office and had lunch with him. My dad stopped by to bring me a bunch of twice baked potatoes for my birthday and a gift! At night, my mom, stepdad, brothers and sister in law came over for dinner and ice cream cake! And Chuck got me something I have been wanting for months!!!

l_19430617_001

It’s a Kindle Paperwhite with a fabulous pink case. I have been neglecting everything so I can play with it! I’ve gotten quite a bit of reading done in the last few days! I love it!

On Thursday I had lunch with Chuck’s mom and sister. We went to Noodles! Mmmm! Friday night my mom came over and Chuck and I went out to celebrate our anniversary. It was a great week and I felt so loved and blessed all week long! Thank you to everyone that helped me celebrate and to everyone that wished me a happy birthday. It’s going to a be a wonderful year!

Fishing & The 4th Of July

Posted on July 17, 2013July 17, 2013 by Andi

We have been doing a lot of fishing. Maddie really likes it and we have fun bringing her. We have been trying out a bunch of lakes in the area to see what we like best. And before this outing, we got her a fishing pole. We let her pick out the one she wanted. It’s a Barbie one and there’s a little rubber fish you can tie on the end of it to help them learn to cast. She would drop it in the water over and over and over, each time proclaiming “I got one!”

This was on the 4th of July. It was really hot this day! We tried out one lake first. we weren’t having much luck catching anything, but Maddie was having fun!

20130704_103251(0)

Here’s a video of Maddie.

After not having much luck at this lake, we went to another lake by our house. Chuck caught a few little fish, but Maddie really liked being able to stand (and sit)

in the water and fish.

Maddie was really starting to get the hang of casting.

After all this fishing fun, we went to Wendy’s for lunch. Then it was home for the girls to nap so Chuck and I could clean before his mom and step dad came over to grill and hang out.

We took some pictures of the girls in their festive attire, ate some watermelon, played on the porch, ate dinner on the porch, rode bikes, played with fireworks, ate popsicles and played some hockey.

It was a very busy and extremely fun day.

We really wanted to take Maddie out for fireworks. My dad was going to come and sit at our house while Dannie slept, but Maddie wasn’t feeling well a couple days before the 4th, so we decided we would try next year. Plus, they were really late and Maddie isn’t used to staying up past her bedtime. Oh well. Next year! Smile

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July with your family!

Fishing & StoryWalk

Posted on July 15, 2013July 17, 2013 by Andi

A couple weekends ago we took the girls to Lebanon Hills Park and went on a StoryWalk (a walk around a trail with pages of a book set up to read as you walk).

20130630_091218

20130630_091229

Maddie also needed to stop and look at bugs. And she was very curteous to her doll she was carrying. She would turn so the baby could see the pages of the book. How very considerate of her. Smile

20130630_091514

20130630_091525

We also took Maddie fishing for the first time. Maddie touched some of the fish Chuck caught. Most of the time was spent collecting rocks to throw into the water, but she was happy either way. Chuck caught a couple sunfish, some bullheads and a turtle! Now Maddie is going to expect a turtle every time we go fishing!

Taste of Love Bakery

Posted on May 17, 2013May 16, 2013 by Andi

The other day, Maddie, Dannie and I took a little trip to a new bakery called Taste of Love. I heard that they had a play area for kids and their pictures of food from their Facebook Page looked so delicious.

The bakery was very cute and the staff was very nice. Maddie picked out a cake pop and they gave her a bag all to herself. She thought that was pretty great! There are a few tables to sit at in the main room. If you go down the hall, You can see them baking all their goodies and just past that is the play area for kids.

What a brilliant idea. It makes it low stress to bring them with you and you know that they don’t mind your kids being there when they give them a place to play!

They have all kinds of goodies….muffins, cake pops, cupcakes, slices of cake, doughnuts, coffee, a few sandwiches and more.

Good Times Park

Posted on May 1, 2013 by Andi

Today we checked out a new park that opened in Eagan. It’s called Good Times Park. It’s an indoor playground/gym/picnic place/art station/bouncy pillow/soccer field. It wasn’t too crowded and the kids (ages almost 2-almost 4) had a great time!

Some pros:

  • It wasn’t real crowded. (Probably because the opened last week and not many people know about it.)
  • There are lots of things for the kids to do. We were there for over 3 hours and the kids only stopped running and playing to eat.
  • There are good activities for various ages.
  • You can bring your own food in to eat at the picnic area.
  • They don’t sell soda in the vending machine and most of the snacks aren’t too terrible.
  • It was very clean. (Also probably because it is so new.)
  • There’s a separate changing area with tables, a bench, trash and a sink.
  • You can pay ahead of time. Since there isn’t any staff to let you in or take your money, you do it yourself.

Some cons:

  • It’s a little expensive. I am not sure I would go many times in the summer as the weather gets nicer. You get a fairly good deal for a monthly membership, but I think I might spend my money at the zoo or Children’s Museum instead.
  • You really should buy your admission ticket before you come. The first time you come, you need to create an account and it takes a little bit. The kids get restless. I am sure it is simpler to do once you have an account, but it’s a little tedious the first time.
  • There’s glass windows to look at the park while you are trying to pay. The kids get upset that they can see it, but can’t get it.
  • There aren’t any clocks. At least none that I saw. I was always wondering what time it was. It would be nice if there were at least some clocks in the picnic area.
  • The slides on the big playground are FAST! Thankfully the first time down scared Maddie and she wouldn’t go near it again. Little kids would be better off going down on their stomachs, feet first.
  • The big inflatable jumping pillow is great. The kids love it. But it’s annoying to take your shoes on and off when they go in and come out. I am sure you could just leave your shoes off the whole time, but the kids seem to play better and run around with them on.
  • The art corner is a great idea as well. But with crayons and markers….I can see this being a disaster down the road. They will color everywhere and it will get messy and hard to keep clean.

And here are pictures! I was the first one in there today, so I took lots of pictures.

Kompressor

Posted on April 26, 2013April 25, 2013 by Andi

Our Dyson vacuum was recently having issues. This gave us an excuse to get a new one. Our Dyson was ok, but we weren’t overly impressed enough to get another one. So we were on the hunt for a new one. I couldn’t decide what I wanted. Upright? Canister? Roomba? (Ok, the last one wasn’t actually something we were considering.)

*Side Note* I hate vacuuming. Well, cleaning in general. But for some reason, having your vacuum out of commission and not having one, really made me have the urge to vacuum. How strange!

Anyway…after lots of research (on Chuck’s part) and lots of watching videos (on my part), I decided I wanted a canister vacuum. They are good on stairs, carpet and hardwood. We ended up getting the LG Kompressor Canister PetCare Plus Vacuum Cleaner LcV900B. I was obsessed with it after watching this video. Ok, ok….I know you just want to see a picture. Here you go.

LG-Kompressor-Canister-PetCare-Plus-Vacuum-Cleaner-All-e1327454325918-898x1024

Yeah….it’s pretty sweet! I spent a bunch of time cleaning things. I still have a little learning curve with it after only using an upright vacuum as long as I can remember. But I love how easy it is to use, all the various attachments, how clean my floor is, how easy it is to empty, that it’s not too heavy to carry with the weight distributed in two hands and how it stores. It even keeps the tiny attachments inside the wheeled part. Brilliant.

If you are in need of a new vacuum, I highly recommend giving this one some consideration. I don’t think you’ll regret it. Now I need to go find something to vacuum. It’s just looking at me, anxiously waiting for me to do more cleaning.

Children’s Museum

Posted on April 25, 2013April 25, 2013 by Andi

We love the Children’s Museum! It’s not too far away and Chuck works in the connecting skyway, so we can go meet him for lunch. They have two floors full of various rooms for the kids. I can stay on just one floor for hours with Maddie and she doesn’t get bored. It’s wonderful! (Maddie has gotten so big since the last time I wrote about the museum!)

I just renewed my membership so I can have a free guest come with me. We already utilized it and brought Chuck’s mom with us. It’s fun for grandma to hang out and Maddie loves showing her everything!

I have pictures from a couple various trips we have taken there. It will be nice when Dannie is a little older and gets to enjoy in the fun, too! Although, she is pretty happy in her carrier watching all the kids run around!

The shopping and cooking area is her favorite. She could play there all day!

Some other random thoughts:

  • The fee to get in is a little high (not as bad as the zoo), but if you decide you want to get a membership, the cost of admission can be put toward a membership.
  • You can bring in your own food and eat it in the room they have with tables.
  • They have a coat room and lockers to leave your jackets or bags.
  • They do birthday parties.
  • They have an arts and crafts room.
  • There is an outdoor play room with lots of fun activities.
  • They have a nursing area and a floor that is just for reading and being quiet.
  • They have face painting and a photo booth.
  • Someone runs a story time or active play time in the rotunda (I think around 10:30, if I remember correctly).

If you haven’t been here with your kiddos yet, I highly recommend it! You could spend the whole day here!
