Minnehaha Falls

Posted on September 30, 2014September 29, 2014 by Andi

Since I’m doing some catch up to things we did earlier in the year, this was another fun outing we did this summer. I had been wanting to take the girls to Minnehaha Falls, but until this year, Maddie wasn’t old enough and Dannie is a bit easier to take places since she can walk. So we packed ourselves in the car and headed there on a gorgeous July morning!

Are these two related or what?! I just love how much the girls love their dad! It’s so sweet.

We stopped and played at the park for a while until we were all hungry and tired of being in the sun.

Dannie even found a little friend to play with.

I could seriously gobble her right up!

On the way to the falls, I was telling Chuck how we came here each year growing up for a big Norwegian get-together. My dad’s mom was Norwegian and she loved her heritage so much. She dressed us up for the events and although I don’t remember specifics about going there, I remember how much the event meant to my grandma each year.

So I was floored when we got there and found out that Norway Day was being held the day we are there. It’s one day of the year. And we came on that day. It made me so happy to think of all the fond memories and it made me miss my grandma. I didn’t take any good pictures, but the fact that it was on that day was enough for me.

Dannie’s Pigtails

Posted on September 29, 2014 by Andi

Back in July, I finally gave Dannie pigtails. Why it took me that long (and why I haven’t done them very often since then) is beyond me. The pigtails themselves are not all that exciting. I mostly couldn’t decide which of her crazy faces to post in a different post, so this one got its own with all her goofiness.

I should really do them again soon. She has a lot more hair than she did in July, and I am sure they would work even better (you’ll note how crooked these are). But it’s hard to get them to look good with a wiggly toddler!

Bluefin Bay 2014

Posted on September 24, 2014September 24, 2014 by Andi

Over Labor Day weekend, we took our annual trip to Bluefin Bay with the Fishers. Our kids are the same age and are such good little friends. We love going up there with them and we have already booked the same places for next year! Trisha did a really long post with a bunch of pictures and you can find that HERE.

Also, normally I would take a ton of pictures with my phone. But I have been really trying to experience things more and put down my phone. I know there may have been a lot of other photo-worthy moments, but I don’t feel like I missed anything by being more present. And I would just tell Chuck to take a picture with the good camera. Smile I did post quite a few pictures below, but you can look at all the pictures we took if you’d like.

So let’s see…

FRIDAY

We arrived Friday afternoon. We got settled and played at the park and hung out with the Fishers while Chuck made dinner.  We took a stroll down by the lake and threw a bunch of rocks and Chuck took Maddie to have s’mores by the camp fire while I put Dannie to bed. Then we sat and played cribbage, listened to the water crashing on the lake, did some reading, and went to bed.

(The pictures below were actually from our park visit the next morning, but there were lots of pictures for Saturday. Smile)

SATURDAY

We played at the park in the morning and then we took a “hike” to Temperance River and let the kids run around. The falls there are so pretty and there’s a nice place to hang out by the lake and throw more rocks (a theme for the weekend). Maddie and Chelsea have such a fun time hanging out together and play really well with each other.

We went to the pool at some point, I just can’t remember when. Smile The girls really liked the pool, but much preferred the hot tub….I prefer it, too, I just can’t be in it like I would like with this little baby in my belly and all.

Since Maddie hasn’t been napping much, we let her stay up and have a rest time for a while and we snuggled and read some books together.

That evening we went to Grand Marais and walked around/looked in stores, had dinner and got ice cream. We usually go there on Sunday night and the stores are all closing and it’s a lifeless little town. But it’s a little more exciting on a Saturday night and I’m glad we decided to give that a try this year.

At night, we went to the campfire for s’mores again (a nightly ritual when they give you free s’more stuff at the front desk). After the girls were in bed, we played some more cribbage and this time we made a fire. Between the fire and the sounds of the lake…I was in heaven!

SUNDAY

Chuck got us up and moving bright and early and we were out the door by about 7:30 to go hiking/exploring. We went the Temperance River again, but went a different way this time to see different things. Last year the girls were a bit to young for this, but Maddie was at a great age and Chuck rented a backpack from the resort to carry Dannie around (which she wasn’t very happy about at first). It was a bit of an uphill climb, but the views were gorgeous!

When we got back, we headed to a craft for the kids…painting rocks. Maddie cried for the first part of it and then decided she wanted to paint. Dannie loved it. At some point we had lunch and then went swimming. And I don’t remember how we fit it all in, but we went to get ice cream after lunch, too.

That afternoon, Maddie and I took a nap together on the couch. It was the first time in her life (since she was a newborn) that she napped with me and not by herself. It was completely uncomfortable, but cute to snuggle with her.

After nap time, the girls had some kind of dance party…sounds like a good 3-year-old activity to me! They are impossible to take pictures of because they move so quickly. I’m also not certain there was even any music on at the time.

Then we went to the Fisher’s place for dinner. I think I forgot to mention that their room was right next door to ours. After dinner we got some supplies from the rental office (tennis rackets, balls, bocce ball, croquet) and headed to the tennis courts and field. This occupied the kiddos until it was time for a little tetherball and more s’mores.

After the kids were in bed, we played, you guess it, some more cribbage by the fire and read our books for a while before heading to bed ourselves.

MONDAY

We woke up and took one more trip down to the lake after we got everything packed up and threw some more rocks. Then we were off. We made a stop in Duluth on the way home to visit Chuck’s dad and stayed there a couple hours, ate lunch and headed toward home at nap time.

It was a wonderful trip and one that we look forward to every year. We are so fortunate to have such great friends to take this trip with each year.

Dancing Queens

Posted on September 6, 2014September 8, 2014 by Andi

On the way home from dinner one night while we were on the North Shore last weekend, we put on some music and the girls started dancing in their car seats. These are two of Maddie’s favorite songs to dance to. They were making me laugh! In the first video, they are dancing to “Sexy And I Know It” and the second video is “Gangnam Style”.

Train Ride

Posted on August 18, 2014August 15, 2014 by Andi

Back in July (yes, I’m VERY behind in blog posts), Maddie had been asking a lot about trains. So we decided to take her on a light rail ride downtown. Maddie loved every minute of it!

Here are the girls waiting for the train to come.

img_0529

Here is Maddie watching for the train.

img_0536

Dannie and I sitting on the train.

img_0537

And Maddie…happy as can be sitting with dad, looking at everything from her window!

img_0540

When we got downtown, we walked around a little bit and then had dinner at Panera. Then wandered back to the train to go back home. It was a fun adventure and Maddie talked about it for days. It was a cheap little trip to make a 3 year old happy for days!

18 Months

I can’t believe how fast Dannie has been growing up. I feel like I blinked and BAM…she’s 18 months old. Wow.

i-fNFqDmG-XL

D has been trying to talk a lot more. She has a bunch of words and signs now and seems to be very happy that she can communicate with us better.

983634_10152146579196263_61674556_n

She dotes on her sister ALL the time. She follows her around and wants to copy everything she does. It’s really sweet. Sometimes I need to remind Maddie that Dannie is always watching her and she needs to make sure she doesn’t teach Dannie bad habits…like standing on the picnic table or playing on the stairs.

They love holding hands and I can tell that they are going to be such good friends. They also fight and bicker and Dannie is really starting to hold her own with Maddie (and other kids).

i-5t46TwM-XL

10363479_10152218247686263_7796084558324128162_n

Dannie is my little daredevil. She isn’t overly crazy, but she definitely takes more risks than Maddie did.

i-PRF2dND-XL

She LOVES shoes. Not just a little bit. A LOT. She will bring our shoes to us, wear our shoes, put her shoes on, wear her sisters shoes over her shoes, etc. She is also particular about which shoes she wears. If I pick the wrong ones, I will get a big head shake and a toddler dashing off to find the ones she wants.

i-bth86MP-XL

Which brings me to the fact that she is getting quite the personality. She’s becoming strong willed and definitely has opinions on things. She is also as silly as they come.

Dannie’s current favorite book is “Pout Pout Fish”. She really loves it. She wants to take it to bed and carries it all over the house it her. She walks around saying “blub blub blub” (which is a phrase from the book).

10155400_10152165273141263_7450341736885218679_n

She is the sweetest little girl and is my snuggler. She wants to be in my pocket a lot of the of time. She gives hugs to everyone. She gets so excited when dad gets home and runs to the door. And she will give her sister kisses and hugs.

Children’s Museum With Friends

Posted on March 27, 2014April 21, 2020 by Andi

We went the the Children’s Museum back in February with a friend. She was a month away from having her second, so she was happy to let her daughter run off some energy!

While we were waiting for them to get there, the girls played in the lobby. I got this cute video of Maddie pushing Dannie in circles in the stroller. I love the look on Dannie’s face!

Dannie spent a good portion of the morning sucking down water from Maddie’s water bottle.

i-FDKzBBT-XL

There was a dinosaur exhibit and all the girls loved it.

i-49ZLs7n-XL

We also spent a lot of time playing with bugs in the water.

i-dq7GVD6-XL

Dannie found a stool that she pushed around everywhere…

…even into someone’s stroller.

i-QTfPZ5W-XL

The music/dancing room is another favorite. The girls love to push buttons and dance on the stage.

We had a wonderful time and I am so glad we got to go with some new friends!

Videos!

Posted on March 25, 2014March 24, 2014 by Andi

I have been taking a bunch of videos with my phone lately. So instead of a photo dump, we have a video dump!

One warm day recently, I took the girls outside to play in the snow. Maddie was having fun shoveling the snow and Dannie was freaking out every time she walked near it! At least I didn’t have to worry about her leaving the driveway. Smile

I have a bunch of sensory bins I used to play with Maddie all the time. I usually forget to get them out to play with Dannie, though. One evening we were killing some time before bed, so I brought the bins out. The rice one was their favorite!

The girls love sitting at the little picnic table to eat snacks. Maddie really likes to help Dannie eat.

I had been trying to get a picture of Dannie giving me “the look”. I finally got a video of it where you could tell what she was doing. Chuck took a good one, too, but I haven’t uploaded that one.

Dannie just being Dannie. This was taken a number of weeks ago.

I am sure there are more, but these were the good ones. Happy Tuesday.

Num Num Num

Posted on March 24, 2014March 21, 2014 by Andi

Dannie loves eating. I took a quick video of her eating lunch last week. She wanted the banana I was eating and kept saying “num num num”. She was cracking me up.

Dannie is such a ham in front of the camera. I am sure she is going to be our comedian!

Valentine’s Day

Posted on March 20, 2014March 17, 2014 by Andi

We went to a Valentine’s Day playdate and I had Maddie help me make valentines to give to her friends (we also gave some to a few family members and friends, too). She did a great job with her own and with Dannie’s.

Chuck, as usual, picked out some amazing gifts for me. Look….a bouquet of kittens.
