Christmas Day

Posted on January 5, 2014January 4, 2014 by Andi

The weekend before Christmas my mom and her crew came over to bake cookies and take a family photo for her holiday card. My mom also helped me paint while the kids were sleeping, which is why I am wearing painting clothes. Smile

When we got home from our Christmas Eve celebration, we helped Maddie put out cookies she made and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. She was very excited!

Then Chuck and I finished wrapping presents. Maddie asked Santa for pink presents, pink candy canes and a doll. So Maddie got her pink Christmas that she wanted. We filled her stocking (which is pink) with pink goodies, too.

My mom and her family came over Christmas morning. And there is never a shortage of gifts when my mom comes!

i-qdJ448w-XL

Then we hung out, opened presents and had brunch.

Dannie wasn’t very interested in presents so Maddie got to open most of them. She was pretty excited about that. She was really good to understand that some gifts were hers and others were Dannie’s.

My mom got Maddie a vanity. She thought she was getting play makeup, but it turned out it was real (well, kid makeup) and Maddie had a blast putting it on!

After the craziness of the morning, the girls took naps and we cleaned up a bit. When they woke up, we headed to my aunt and uncle’s house. They always have people over Christmas evening and it’s nice to see family and eat lots of food!

We had a great Christmas and the girls were seemed to have a fun, exciting and exhausting day…just the way it should be!

Breakfast With Santa

Posted on January 4, 2014January 2, 2014 by Andi

We took the girls to see Santa at our local Community Center. They have a bunch of games and activities for the kids and a breakfast with Santa. It’s a cute little activity and it’s basically across the street.

A couple of my friends from MOMS Club went this year as well. One of my friends, Tricia’s daughter is one of Maddie’s best friends, Leighton. They play together all the time and giggle and hold hands while doing so!

Maddie also loves Leighton’s brother, Cole.

i-6H2g7CR-XL

I spent the morning chasing Dannie around. She just wanted to wander around the gym. (And I’m wearing Maddie’s headband in this picture…hence the pink bow in my hair. Smile)

i-cRBKc4Q-XL

And here is our picture with Santa. Needless to say, it didn’t go very well. Dannie had her mouth full of food when she freaked out and Maddie wanted to see Santa until she was next to him…then she got shy. And Chuck is not wearing suspenders as some of my friends thought. That is just the strap to the camera. Smile

Schminke Christmas

Posted on January 3, 2014January 2, 2014 by Andi

Chuck’s mom’s parents have recently moved from their home in Iowa where they lived for 60 years to an assisted living home in Austin, Minnesota. Chuck’s Aunt and Uncle live in Austin, too. So this year, on Christmas Eve, we made the drive to Austin to spend time with Chuck’s grandparents. It was a much shorter drive than the trip to Iowa. Smile

Maddie had a great time playing with her cousin, Amira. They had a great time snuggling on the chair together watching “The Wizard of Oz”.

i-QRC7Sm5-XL

i-T4hNggf-XL

We had a great time being able to hang out with Chuck’s family and be able to go for just a couple hours. I know we will make the trip much more often and we are looking forward to seeing the grandparents more than once or twice a year!

Applewood Orchard

Posted on December 1, 2013December 1, 2013 by Andi

This fall I visited Applewood Orchard a couple times. Chuck and I took the girls there one day and I also visited with some friends from MOMS Club. It was so much fun and I know we will make this a tradition every fall! (Chuck took so many great pictures that it was hard to cut back. So I’m sorry for all the pictures!)

Maddie liked carrying the basket around. It was still empty at this point. The orchard had samples of apples as you arrived. Maddie picked a crab apple. She loved that tiny little apple. Before we knew it, she had eaten the entire thing! Smile

Maddie was really excited to pick out the apples. We taught her that she had to twist them a couple times then pull them off. After one or two, she had it down! She loved picking apples!

IMG_1784-XL

IMG_1787-XL

IMG_1795-XL

She just looked so darn cute standing in the isle of the apple trees!

IMG_1803-XL

It wasn’t a great season for raspberries, but Maddie and I had fun picking some anyway. Maddie wanted to eat them all as we picked them. The hardest part was making sure we picked some that weren’t swarmed with bees.

IMG_1808-XL

Chuck took Maddie on a hayride. She loved it!

IMG_1834-XL

While they went on a hayride, I hung out with this little sweet pea!

IMG_1841-XL

There was also a little evergreen tree maze. Chuck took Maddie through it and apparently she really liked the dog statue that was inside. Smile

IMG_1904-XL

There was a big pile of hay bales. Maddie liked climbing on them and collecting small pieces of hay. Smile

IMG_1865-XL

IMG_1885-XL

Chuck took some pictures of me with the girls!

IMG_1883-XL

And a nice man offered to take our picture. Too bad the girls look like we are torturing them!

Photo Hodge Podge

Posted on November 29, 2013April 5, 2016 by Andi

A couple months ago, I went to see Cirque du Soleil with my mom and sister-in-law, Katie. I LOVE Cirque shows and this one was amazing and didn’t disappoint. This was Katie’s first Cirque show and she loved it, too!

20130927_211140

20130927_195736

Chuck bought Maddie a computer game to play together (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs). Maddie likes to play. She likes making her character jump! Smile I just think they are adorable playing video games together.

20131005_131620

One of Maddie’s favorite crafts to do right now is glue and noodles. This will keep her busy for quite some time. It’s a simple activity and I am just happy it keeps her busy for a few minutes. Smile

20131014_195140-MIX

Back in September, a couple neighbors had a birthday party for their kids. They had rented a couple ponies for the kids to ride. It was so cute. We figured Maddie would be really excited about it was her turn, and then she would freak out. But to our surprise, she got right on and had a great time. When she was done she told us “that horsey was bumpy.” So cute and so true.

20131016_175138

Maddie found a shirt in her drawer that she wanted to wear. I thought it was cute that it said “nerd alert” on it and she had her hair in pigtails. She just looked so adorable.

20131017_183042

Speaking of adorable, Maddie likes to wear her ponytails like Dorothy.

20131022_082132-MIX

And sometimes she likes wearing her hat around. This girl is really into making goofy faces these days!

20131024_114627

Maddie got a laptop for her birthday last year and Dannie got one this year. They both love them and it’s so cute to see them play together.

20131122_124423

Dannie is walking all over the place now. She really could have been walking for a couple months now, but it was all about will. She just didn’t want to until recently. Now it is all she wants to do and she is so proud of herself.

20131124_091322(0)

Maddie likes it when I put our big pillow on the couch. Then she jumps on it and calls it her “taco”. Chuck’s mom made Dannie an activity book. (She made one for Maddie and our niece for their birthdays, too. I’ll do a whole post on it soon.) Maddie likes to play with it…while sitting in her “taco.”

20131124_193442

20131124_193526

Maddie liked the hat I got from my birthday dinner and wanted to wear it. I couldn’t get her to make a normal face while she was wearing it. I have no idea what she is doing with her hands!

20131106_081701

Chuck was cleaning up the office and came across a bunch of post-it notes. Maddie thought she hit the jackpot and was putting them all over herself. Such a goofball!

20131110_164801

I hosted a playdate for my MOMS Club and we made Jolly Rancher Suckers. I was impressed that they turned out so well. They were a huge hit with the kids and I know I will save this one to do as kids get older. I think I might make them for Maddie’s next birthday party as favors or snacks on the table.

20131121_104426

While I was working on the suckers, Maddie wanted to play in the kitchen with me. She’s kind of a mama’s girl.

20131121_110149(0)

The other day I babysat my niece. The three girls play so well together. They were all so happy at lunch time, but I couldn’t get all of them to look at the camera at the same time.

20131127_113709

On Thanksgiving, we had Chuck’s mom and step dad over for a Thanksgiving lunch. After the girls went down for a nap, I curled up next to the fireplace with a book.  (On my new Kindle, of course!)

20131128_143757

I read only a couple pages until this happened. Smile

20131128_155643

So there you have it. A hodge podge of pictures that I have had sitting around. Now I’m off for a repeat of that picture above. Smile

Sever’s Corn Maze

Posted on November 27, 2013 by Andi

I’m just about caught up with all the posts that I never got around to posting about. I had never been to Sever’s Corn Maze before. I heard it was a lot of fun and I am so glad we went this year.

I think Maddie’s favorite thing to do was stick her head into the pictures. All. Of. Them.

She also liked to sit on the tractors.

20130915_102523(0)-XL

Chuck and Maddie went on the big inflated jumping thing. They had lots of fun!

20130915_103641-XL

20130915_103653-XL

Dannie just hung out. She had a bottle while she watched Chuck and Maddie jump.

20130915_104135-XL

We had fun playing in the corn. Maddie wanted to be covered up it in. Then she pretended she was sleeping. Smile

20130915_104529-XL

There was a hay bale maze. Chuck didn’t really struggle getting through it. Smile

20130915_105423-XL

Just a cute picture of Chuck and Maddie.

20130915_105714-XL

They had a lot of animals there. Maddie liked the bird house. She was a bit scared of them, but she thought it was pretty cool when I got one to land on me.

20130915_110856-XL

Kangaroos.

20130915_111528-XL

Camel.

20130915_112208-XL

More playing in the corn.

20130915_112608(0)-XL

Chuck is such a great dad. He gave her piggy back rides, tried running in the corn with her, played in the jungle gym, and taught her how to jump into the corn!

20130915_113135-XL

20130915_113926-XL

And Dannie just happily chewed on her baby.

20130915_113625-XL

Chuck did take Maddie through the corn maze, but it was all the same thing to look at so she got bored. Plus it was pretty muddy in there, so they didn’t stay inside long. There was a swing set there, too. Maddie spent a bunch of time playing on that.

We spent the morning here and it was the perfect amount of time for the kids. There was lots to see without them getting too bored. I will definitely go back next year and if you haven’t been yet, you need to plan a trip there next season!

Halloween

Posted on November 25, 2013November 25, 2013 by Andi

Halloween was lots of fun this year. Maddie was insistent that she was a ladybug. When I asked what Dannie should be, she told me “PUMPKIN”.

We went to a few Halloween events. The first was one my aunt and uncle invited us to. They had a few activities there and we got to pick out pumpkins to bring home.

IMG_2158-XL

IMG_2166-XL

Later in the month, we went to a Halloween trail at Chutes & Ladders. (And yes, Maddie had two ladybug costumes. I bought one and a friend gave me the other one for her to wear when it was really cold or that could get messy at school.)

IMG_2181-XL

They had a bunch of stations for the kids to play games or get candy.

IMG_2194-XL

We went with Chuck’s sister Paige and her daughter Amira. Amira was Mr. Potato Head.

IMG_2204-XL

Maddie got bored with some of the games, mostly when she found out they were giving toys instead of candy at every station. So we played at the park for a little while.

IMG_2218-XL

Part of the tickets included a free treat. Maddie picked a push-pop (do you remember those from your childhood!?).

IMG_2227-XL

IMG_2239-XL

On Halloween morning, we went to the library and did some craft projects and heard story time. Amira joined us for this event, too.

1382894_10100311228677062_1990633008_n

On Halloween night, my mom, stepdad, and brother came over to go trick or treating with us. It was pretty cold, so Maddie ended up wearing her jacket with her wings over it. She looked pretty dang cute!

IMG_2573-XL

We went to quite a few houses in the neighborhood.

IMG_2575-XL

IMG_2586-XL

IMG_2596-XL

Maddie even went up to a couple houses on her own. She’s really shy, so I was so very proud of her! She was so polite and said “trick or treat” and “thank you”. She’s such a big girl!

IMG_2588-XL

IMG_2597-XL

IMG_2601-XL

After visiting a few houses, we ran inside to grab more layers and warm up our hands. When we started walking again, we noticed Maddie had grabbed a couple friends to take with her. Such a goofball!

IMG_2600-XL

A couple pictures of our group.

IMG_2606-XL

IMG_2613-XL

Here’s Maddie’s loot. She even shared some with us. And over the next couple weeks, she was so good about having one treat here or there and was so excited to pick out the one she wanted.

IMG_2621-XL

1380252_10201410727804306_257196211_n

We also went to a costume party playdate at a friend’s house, but I didn’t get pictures of that. All the kids were cute running around in their costumes, though.

I hope you had a great Halloween. (And have a happy thanksgiving, too!)

Silly Silly Girl

Posted on November 22, 2013 by Andi

Three nights this week, Chuck took Maddie out to run errands or play at the library after dinner. (Yes….best hubby ever!!) So Dannie and I got to have some Dannie-Mommy time.

One night, she took a short nap so she was pretty cranky at night. I wasn’t sure how she was going to be or if she was going to be happy at all before bed. Apparently, the way to her heart is a blanket. This girl went berserk playing with it. I couldn’t stop laughing at her.

Then last night, I took my phone and turned the camera around so she could see herself while I taped her. She thought it was so funny to see herself. And I got lots of bubble-blowing “mama” noises from her.

Such a silly girl. I just can’t get enough of her antics. Smile

Bluefin Bay

Posted on November 20, 2013November 20, 2013 by Andi

Over Labor Day weekend we took a trip to the North Shore and stayed at Bluefin Bay with some friends. We have gone with them for a few years now. We almost didn’t go this year since we thought it might be hard with two toddlers and two babies (ok, they were 9 months old…not really babies), but it was so much fun and we were so glad we decided to go!

Here’s a little rundown of our trip.

We played at the park.

IMG_0768-XL

Looked adorable. Smile

IMG_0835-XL

Pretended to shoot things in the arcade.

IMG_0874-XL

Did some crafts. The girls were coloring puzzles.

IMG_0890-XL

Went swimming. They liked swimming, but they really wanted to be in the hot tub.

IMG_0907-XL

The babies were both hungry at the same time, so while we were in Grand Marais (where we did some shopping, sight seeing, rock throwing and had dinner) Trisha and I cozied up in some chairs to feed the kids while the big girls threw rocks! Lots. Of. Rocks.

IMG_0922-XL

Bluefin has free packages of s’mores, so every night we went down to the bonfire and roasted marshmallows and ate s’mores until we thought we might explode. Oh wait….that was just me. Smile

IMG_0945-XL

IMG_0954-XL

There was this goose that would not leave us alone. It was freaking the kids out. Rightfully so. Those things are big. And mean.

IMG_0962-XL

Dannie did lots of snacking. Girl likes her food.

IMG_0982-XL

There was more rock throwing. This was definitely the most favorite activity of the weekend.

IMG_1030-XL

Searching for perfect rocks.

IMG_1051-XL

This was right after Maddie and I had a tickle fight on the beach. Smile

IMG_1085-XL

IMG_1091-XL

Dannie liked the rocks, too, but her main goal was trying to eat them, so you had to keep a pretty close eye on her. Smile

IMG_1105-XL

There’s a boardwalk along the lake between the two sections of the resort. It is one of my favorite places there.

IMG_1119-XL

More crafts. Last year Maddie wanted nothing to do with rock painting. This year she was so excited and was so sad we wouldn’t let her paint more. I think she painted three. Although she may have painted more, but we only brought three home. They are on our front porch.

IMG_1142-XL

More rock throwing. I love Chelsea’s outfit in this one. These girls have such personalities and love to pick out their own clothes!

IMG_1153-XL

IMG_1171-XL

One afternoon, we took a short hike. The girls were so stinking cute the whole time! Just wait until you see the other pictures! This one just needs to be blown up and framed somewhere!

IMG_1189-XL

The dads carried the babies around in these backpacks that we rented from the resort. The kids loved them.

IMG_1199-XL

This is just because Chelsea is adorable and I love her little face!

IMG_1216-XL

IMG_1237-XL

IMG_1283-XL

There was a brief break from rock throwing to eat Cheerios.

IMG_1315-XL

The Fisher family.

IMG_1380-XL

A little North Shore family photo.

IMG_1390-XL

As we were leaving, the girls wanted to hold hands. They held hands almost all the way back to the car.

IMG_1396-XL

IMG_1407-XL

IMG_1417-XL

IMG_1431-XL

Not only can you rent backpacks, you can rent bikes, too. So we got a couple bikes and a bike trailer for the girls and took a little ride along the shore. The real reason for the ride was that I wanted some ice cream. So we thought a little exercise beforehand was a good idea. Smile

20130901_164322-XL

IMG_1446-XL

More rock throwing. I love that they both have tutus on.

IMG_1462-XL

This was what we got to wake up to every day. We had the windows cracked open so you could hear the waves crashing and the birds in the morning. I could have stayed in bed and looked at this view the whole weekend and been perfectly happy!

20130902_063525-XL

We stopped to visit Chuck’s dad on the way home and after our visit and the long, exciting, fun-filled weekend…we had two tired little girls on our hands.

20130902_142655-XL

We are so happy we were able to make the trip to Bluefin work again. I hope we get to go every year! And we are so blessed to have wonderful friends with kids the same age to share the weekend with! HERE are all the pictures from our trip.

Here are Trisha’s posts from Bluefin in case you are interested.

Iowa/Omaha

Posted on November 19, 2013November 18, 2013 by Andi

Back in August, we made a trip down to Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska to visit both sets of Chuck’s grandparents. We hadn’t been down there in a long time and since Chuck had the month off (this was when he was taking his paternity leave), it was time to take the trip down.

Luckily, Chuck’s mom was able to come with us. This meant we had an extra set of hands in the back of the car to help with the girls. She read books, gave bottles, had fun new crafts for Maddie to try….it was wonderful! Plus we were really happy we got to spend a bunch of time with her since she spends the winters in Florida.

Linda (Chuck’s mom) stayed with her parents and we set up camp at the other set of grandparents’ house. We had the whole basement to ourselves and didn’t have to worry about a bunch of stuff getting in the way at their houses.

Here’s a rundown of our trip.

Riding in the car. Grandma brought pipe cleaners and made whatever Maddie requested. This time it was a camera.

20130815_153342-XL

There were lots of walks. Usually they were spent to kill some time before a meal or to collect some goodies.

IMG_9855-XL

Sometimes we used our collected goodies for a craft project.

IMG_9892-XL

There was silliness!

IMG_9925-XL

Lots of visits to various parks.

IMG_9955-XL

IMG_9989-XL

And sliding.

IMG_0034-XL

IMG_0050-XL

And swinging.

IMG_9983-XL

And a trip to a farmer’s market where Maddie pointed out all the foods she knew.

IMG_0079-XL

And some walking hand-in-hand with great grandma Hays.

IMG_0104-XL

Playing with chains attached to walls. (We were making a pit stop to feed Dannie and Maddie decided this chain was loads of fun!)

IMG_0151-XL

We ate candy.

IMG_0165-XL

We ate ice cream cake.

IMG_0221-XL

We played with cousins.

20130817_192906-XL

We fed fish at the zoo.

IMG_0254-XL

And looked at Gorillas.

IMG_0291-XL

We waved at the underwater creatures.

IMG_0353-XL

And even got to brush goats.

IMG_0341-XL

We played in the sand.

IMG_0366-XL

IMG_0396-XL

We posed for pictures.

IMG_0383-XL

There was more swinging.

IMG_0432-XL

IMG_0476-XL

We walked across a really cool bridge between Iowa and Nebraska.

IMG_0500-XL

Played at another park…where we were surprised that Maddie fearlessly walked to the top of this slide and didn’t skip a beat and slid right down.

IMG_0542-XL

And did some more swinging.

IMG_0570-XL

We played in in the water.

IMG_0619-XL

And played dress-up at the Visitor Center.

IMG_0632-XL

Oh, and made cute faces.

IMG_0656-XL

We went to a splash pad and played in the water.

IMG_0686-XL

IMG_0726-XL

And posed for some more pictures.

IMG_0670-XL

We were able to get a pretty good family photo of us (considering the kids weren’t in the mood for photos) with grandma and grandpa Schminke (Chuck’s mom’s parents) before we left.

20130820_093141-XL

Then we drove home and grandma made more of Maddie’s requests out of pipe cleaners. This time it was glasses! Smile

20130820_102246-XL

We had a wonderful trip and it was so fun to bring the girls when they could enjoy many of the fun things there. And it was fun to explore some of the things we’ve never done before. Playing at parks and running around splash pads is usually questionable behavior without children in tow.

Believe it or not, there are actually a bunch of pictures I left out from the trip. If you want to take a look at the ones that didn’t make the cut, HERE is a link to all the pictures from our trip.
