The Adventure Begins

Posted on December 26, 2014December 26, 2014 by Andi

Last weekend, we packed everything we would want for the next couple months, packed up the kids, and headed to the airport to start our journey. We took Chuck's step-mom, Jean, with us to help with the kids and all our luggage. I'm not sure we could have done it without her!

We arrived at the airport and made our way through security and then had some lunch. The kids were really good and had fun looking at everything at the airport.

The girls did really well on the flight and played on the iPads through most of the trip. Maddie said it was fun and liked the bumps (turbulence). Dannie was really good until the last 10 minutes or so. She didn't want to be in her seat, didn't want to be held, and screamed through most of landing. But she's two, hadn't had a nap, was really tired and overall did great!

Alex was great! I fed him on takeoff and landing. He cried for a minute when I changed him, but slept through most of the flight. He's been to both sides of the country since I was pregnant when I went to New York! What a well-traveled 5-week old!

After a long day, we made it to Seattle. We were all tired and hungry, so we grabbed some food and made our way to our temporary housing. Then we put the girls to bed and fell asleep shortly after them. Alex even let me get a bunch of sleep that night. I was so thankful!

Stay tuned…there's more to come on our adventure!

Holiday Concert

Posted on December 18, 2014December 18, 2014 by Andi

Maddie had her Holiday concert at school last week. It was so cute. They sang about three songs. As you can imagine, it was a bunch of three year olds yelling, singing off-key and flailing their limbs around wildly. But oh so adorable!

She was so proud. She waved to us from stage and sang her little heart out!

This ended up being her last event for school. She was supposed to go one more day before they took a break until the new year, but with our upcoming trip and everyone in our house being under the weather, I couldn't risk Maddie catching and bringing home some new illness from school and kept her home.

Wrestling

Posted on October 19, 2014October 19, 2014 by Andi

Not a day goes by that Chuck and the girls don’t wrestle on the big pillow Chuck’s mom made us. The girls like to run laps around the island and bombard Chuck. It’s hilarious!

Dannie also really likes to get airplane rides. It’s pretty amusing, too. Smile

I just love how much they love their dad and how much fun they have wrestling with him. I hope Chuck doesn’t end up too injured from their rough housing, though….the girls are getting pretty good at their attacks!

Sports

Posted on October 13, 2014 by Andi

Most nights after dinner we go outside to play. We either head to the park, go on a walk or play in the driveway. One night Maddie wanted to play some sports.

First she took out the t-ball set. She’s pretty good at hitting the ball…when she makes contact!

(I was sure I had posted the pictures of Maddie playing t-ball a while back, but I can’t seem to find the videos archived on here. So if you are interested, you can watch more videos HERE.)

After she had her fill of t-ball, she wanted to play some hockey. She was schooled a bit by Chuck, but they had fun. Smile

4th Of July

Posted on October 1, 2014September 29, 2014 by Andi

Nothing like posting about the 4th of July on October 1st…I promise I’ll be caught up soon. Smile

In celebration of the 4th of July, Maddie wanted me to paint her nails. And she did a great job deciding how she wanted them painted.

IMG_2662

Mid-morning, we went over to my mom’s house for a little gathering. We did a little swimming, but it wasn’t as warm as I would have liked for that. Smile

IMG_2674

We tried taking a family photo, but the children would not cooperate. And it’s too bad because we all looked so cute and coordinating. Smile

IMG_2663

Dannie was feeling especially photogenic. You stick a camera in her face, and on comes the charm!

While Dannie and I were taking pictures of ourselves, Maddie was lighting sparklers with my brother in the driveway.

IMG_2681

The girls had their nap/rest time there, then we headed home. After it got a little later/darker and Dannie was in bed, we told Maddie we could do some more sparklers and some fireworks that she picked out with dad. She sat so patiently in her chair and had so much fun. (WOW does she look grown up!)

IMG_2730

Maddie even had fun helping dad light the fireworks and she would giggle as she came running back to her chair.

Had to get a little picture with my sweet girl!

IMG_2743

And I can’t remember if this was on the 4th or the night before, but we were sitting on the porch, enjoying the lovely summer weather and I could see some fireworks right through the trees. Smile

IMG_2649

We had a great 4th and I am glad the girls are getting more excited about it. We just recently finished all the sparklers and the last of the fireworks. Next year we are hoping to take Maddie to fireworks. We had hoped to take her this year, it just didn’t end up working out.

Minnehaha Falls

Posted on September 30, 2014September 29, 2014 by Andi

Since I’m doing some catch up to things we did earlier in the year, this was another fun outing we did this summer. I had been wanting to take the girls to Minnehaha Falls, but until this year, Maddie wasn’t old enough and Dannie is a bit easier to take places since she can walk. So we packed ourselves in the car and headed there on a gorgeous July morning!

Dannie even found a little friend to play with.

I could seriously gobble her right up!

On the way to the falls, I was telling Chuck how we came here each year growing up for a big Norwegian get-together. My dad’s mom was Norwegian and she loved her heritage so much. She dressed us up for the events and although I don’t remember specifics about going there, I remember how much the event meant to my grandma each year.

So I was floored when we got there and found out that Norway Day was being held the day we are there. It’s one day of the year. And we came on that day. It made me so happy to think of all the fond memories and it made me miss my grandma. I didn’t take any good pictures, but the fact that it was on that day was enough for me.

Sports Of All Sorts

Posted on September 25, 2014 by Andi

Earlier in the summer, I signed Maddie up for a sports class. She went twice a week for a few weeks and got to play a variety of games/sports with a few of her friends. At the end of the session, they played a big round of soccer with the other teams and got a trophy.

The first class she was a little unhappy to be there, but she did great by the time it was done. A couple weeks in, they got a group photo and an individual one taken.  They were pretty cute. Smile I was really proud of her for trying something new and I was very happy with the way the class was run. I would definitely sign my kids up for it again.

Bluefin Bay 2014

Posted on September 24, 2014September 24, 2014 by Andi

Over Labor Day weekend, we took our annual trip to Bluefin Bay with the Fishers. Our kids are the same age and are such good little friends. We love going up there with them and we have already booked the same places for next year! Trisha did a really long post with a bunch of pictures and you can find that HERE.

Also, normally I would take a ton of pictures with my phone. But I have been really trying to experience things more and put down my phone. I know there may have been a lot of other photo-worthy moments, but I don’t feel like I missed anything by being more present. And I would just tell Chuck to take a picture with the good camera. Smile I did post quite a few pictures below, but you can look at all the pictures we took if you’d like.

So let’s see…

FRIDAY

We arrived Friday afternoon. We got settled and played at the park and hung out with the Fishers while Chuck made dinner.  We took a stroll down by the lake and threw a bunch of rocks and Chuck took Maddie to have s’mores by the camp fire while I put Dannie to bed. Then we sat and played cribbage, listened to the water crashing on the lake, did some reading, and went to bed.

(The pictures below were actually from our park visit the next morning, but there were lots of pictures for Saturday. Smile)

SATURDAY

We played at the park in the morning and then we took a “hike” to Temperance River and let the kids run around. The falls there are so pretty and there’s a nice place to hang out by the lake and throw more rocks (a theme for the weekend). Maddie and Chelsea have such a fun time hanging out together and play really well with each other.

We went to the pool at some point, I just can’t remember when. Smile The girls really liked the pool, but much preferred the hot tub….I prefer it, too, I just can’t be in it like I would like with this little baby in my belly and all.

Since Maddie hasn’t been napping much, we let her stay up and have a rest time for a while and we snuggled and read some books together.

That evening we went to Grand Marais and walked around/looked in stores, had dinner and got ice cream. We usually go there on Sunday night and the stores are all closing and it’s a lifeless little town. But it’s a little more exciting on a Saturday night and I’m glad we decided to give that a try this year.

At night, we went to the campfire for s’mores again (a nightly ritual when they give you free s’more stuff at the front desk). After the girls were in bed, we played some more cribbage and this time we made a fire. Between the fire and the sounds of the lake…I was in heaven!

SUNDAY

Chuck got us up and moving bright and early and we were out the door by about 7:30 to go hiking/exploring. We went the Temperance River again, but went a different way this time to see different things. Last year the girls were a bit to young for this, but Maddie was at a great age and Chuck rented a backpack from the resort to carry Dannie around (which she wasn’t very happy about at first). It was a bit of an uphill climb, but the views were gorgeous!

When we got back, we headed to a craft for the kids…painting rocks. Maddie cried for the first part of it and then decided she wanted to paint. Dannie loved it. At some point we had lunch and then went swimming. And I don’t remember how we fit it all in, but we went to get ice cream after lunch, too.

That afternoon, Maddie and I took a nap together on the couch. It was the first time in her life (since she was a newborn) that she napped with me and not by herself. It was completely uncomfortable, but cute to snuggle with her.

After nap time, the girls had some kind of dance party…sounds like a good 3-year-old activity to me! They are impossible to take pictures of because they move so quickly. I’m also not certain there was even any music on at the time.

Then we went to the Fisher’s place for dinner. I think I forgot to mention that their room was right next door to ours. After dinner we got some supplies from the rental office (tennis rackets, balls, bocce ball, croquet) and headed to the tennis courts and field. This occupied the kiddos until it was time for a little tetherball and more s’mores.

After the kids were in bed, we played, you guess it, some more cribbage by the fire and read our books for a while before heading to bed ourselves.

MONDAY

We woke up and took one more trip down to the lake after we got everything packed up and threw some more rocks. Then we were off. We made a stop in Duluth on the way home to visit Chuck’s dad and stayed there a couple hours, ate lunch and headed toward home at nap time.

It was a wonderful trip and one that we look forward to every year. We are so fortunate to have such great friends to take this trip with each year.

Dancing Queens

Posted on September 6, 2014September 8, 2014 by Andi

On the way home from dinner one night while we were on the North Shore last weekend, we put on some music and the girls started dancing in their car seats. These are two of Maddie’s favorite songs to dance to. They were making me laugh! In the first video, they are dancing to “Sexy And I Know It” and the second video is “Gangnam Style”.

Our Little Singer

Posted on September 3, 2014September 4, 2014 by Andi

Yesterday I was laughing so hard listening to Maddie singing in her room during nap time. I don’t know where she was in her room, but I took a video of the baby monitor. She was cracking me up. She started by singing “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye. Then she transitioned into her own little mix of who-knows-what. Enjoy!
