Oh, Maddie

Posted on August 2, 2012August 1, 2012 by Andi

This girl of mine keeps us laughing every day! She is getting funnier all the time! Recently, she wanted to wear a life jacket around the house. This was a life jacket given to us by some neighbors because their kids grew out of it. Maddie still isn’t quite big enough for it, but she REALLY wants to wear it. She also discovered she likes wearing her hat. So put those two together and you get this:

And this is the reaction I got from her when I asked her if I could take off the life jacket.

Ha! Isn’t that a lovely look? At least she knows what she wants. Smile

The Kindness of Strangers

This is the book we read for July for book club. A friend of mine pointed out that it is only available for an e-reader. I did see online that you can buy a paperback copy used if you really wanted one. Here’s a little about the book.

Stuck in a job he no longer found fulfilling, journalist Mike McIntyre felt his life was quickly passing him by. So one day he hit the road to trek from one end of the country to the other with little more than the clothes on his back and without a single penny in his pocket. Through his travels, he found varying degrees of kindness in strangers from all walks of life–and discovered more about people and values and life on the road in America than he’d ever thought possible. The gifts of food and shelter he received along the way were outweighed only by the touching gifts of the heart–the willingness of many he met to welcome a lonely stranger into their homes…and the discovery that sometimes those who give the most are the ones with the least to spare.

I liked the book. It was different than the other ones we have read for book club. I did feel like the book was a little detached at times and felt sort of thrown together at parts. But maybe it was supposed to be more journal-like instead of so planned out. Not really sure. I started to feel like some of the stories were a little repetitive. But he did meet some very kind, generous and interesting people along his way.

He wrote a another book, called The Wander Year, where he travels around the world with his wife. I am putting that book on my “to read” list because I think this would be an interesting story with a woman’s perspective as well. Since, I don’t think it would have been wise for a woman to do what he did for “Kindness of Strangers.”

If you have a Kindle or e-reader, this was a good book. It was worth reading to give you hope that there are still good people out there. Happy reading!

Leprechaun Days Parade

Posted on July 31, 2012July 30, 2012 by Andi

Saturday, my mom, Maddie and I walked in the Leprechaun Days Parade in our city. We were walking with my MOMS Club. Maddie sat in the wagon that had banners decorated by some kiddos while my mom pulled her. I handed out candy to moms in the parade with little cards promoting MOMS Club.

It was a hot day, but we had lots of fun. Maddie was a trooper and sat happily in her wagon through the whole parade and then on the walk home. I about collapsed when we got home. Smile Here are a few pictures.

When Chuck dropped us off, we ran into Ronald McDonald.

Then we hung out for a little while until the parade started.

And this picture would be really cute if I weren’t making such a goofy face!

Then the parade started! My mom took most of the pictures, but here’s one of her.

And Maddie was clearly having a good time!

Then we had some water after the parade.

As we walked home, Maddie made herself comfortable in her wagon.

And Chuck took this picture of us when we got home. I was hot and tired and this was a pretty forced smile! But we had a great time!

My mom took a bunch of other pictures. You can see those HERE.

Gift For Grandma

Posted on July 30, 2012July 30, 2012 by Andi

Over the weekend, we celebrated Chuck’s mom’s birthday. We got (and made) her some things for the grand daughters (Maddie and Mira).

We got her a kids table for her house.

And I made her some placemats and name tags for the chairs.

We also gave her a couple plates for the girls to use at the table. Mira isn’t quite old enough yet, but before we know it, we will have 3 little girls at the table!

Grandma Linda loved them and Maddie even got to try them out and loved it, too! It was a successful birthday!

The Minivan

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Andi

You read that correctly. We are now the owners of a minivan. For so many years I said I would never have one. Then the idea of two kids without one just didn’t seem right. So yesterday we picked up our snazzy mom-mobile.

It’s a Nissan Quest. I love the look of it! I especially love that the glass goes all the way around the back of the car. We got it in grey. It’s the same color our Murano was.

This is what the interior looks like with the exception that this picture has tan interior and ours has grey.

I drove it around today for the first time and I felt pretty awesome driving it! It’s a big car, but certainly doesn’t drive like it.

If you see me driving around, feel free to wave….or laugh uncontrollably while you mock me for driving a minivan! Smile

A Couple Videos

Posted on July 19, 2012July 19, 2012 by Andi

Maddie has been such a fun, silly girl lately. She likes talking/babbling and dancing these days. Here’s one of her dancing to some music.

And we were recently playing upstairs and she was cracking me up dancing, playing with a toy and her dolls. So here are a couple videos of her goofiness!

Lake Time

Posted on July 18, 2012 by Andi

I took Maddie to a local lake yesterday. I was a little weary that she wouldn’t like it because she doesn’t like splash pads and can be hit or miss at the pool. But she LOVED it! I am definitely going back. Here are a few pictures I snapped with my phone while we were there.

My mom and one of my brother’s also came by the lake while we were there and had some lunch and played in the water with Maddie. The one funny thing was Maddie hated when the sand would get on her hands or arms. She just likes being clean. I only had to get sand off her feet when we left. Smile

17 Months

Posted on July 16, 2012July 17, 2012 by Andi

Miss Maddie is growing up so quickly. She changes so much every day. We were discussing all the words she says now and realized I should make an updated list of all the things she says like I did when she was 15 Months Old. So here you have it.

*Words (21): dance (dee dee), shoes (shoo), cup (pa), water (wa wa), bottle (ba ba), hat (ha), please (eeee, while signing please), yellow (le low), key (eee), ha, hey, yeah, help (ay ay, while signing help), nose (no no), eye, boom, ow, num num, doo doo (she wants a microphone toy or tube to yell into), beep (beee), teeth (teee…and makes a sign with her pointer finger by her mouth like she is brushing her teeth) – Total 37

*Signs (3): Food, help, teeth – Total 8

*Animal Noises (4): frog (gasping noise), owl (who who), crab (makes a crab motion with her hands), sheep (ba ba ba) – Total 14

*Body Parts (9): shoulders (shrugs her shoulders), toes, knees, arms, hands, tongue, hair, feet, teeth – Total 16

*Other: She nods “yes” which has been such a life saver from the constant “no”, the funniest thing ever is she sees a picture of Santa, she says “ho ho ho”, she likes to tickle people and makes a “tickle” noise while she wiggles her fingers to tickle you, when you as her what does Maddie say? She says “Hi”, makes her mouth make an “O” shape, can knock on a door when asked, points to planes in the sky, makes the “itsy bitsy spider” motion when she wants me to sign that song to her, says “neeee” and wiggles like crazy for raisins or cranberries (and I have no idea what “neeee” means), Maddie will pick out the snack she wants or tell me yes or no for things she wants, has started to pick out books she wants to read at bed time, she gives lots of hugs and kisses. We spend a lot of time with her cousin and she just loves bringing her things when she is upset; she will be such a good big sister! And we got to Target way too often because Maddie knows to ask them for a sticker when we leave by pointing to her chest and saying “doo doo doo.” Smile

I am sure I have forgotten some things. And she learns something new every day so it’s hard to keep track and keep up. But it is so fun that she is communicating more and telling us what she wants. Our big girl!

Here’s a couple pictures…since I spent the whole time blabbing for my virtual baby book. Smile

Omaha

Posted on July 11, 2012July 10, 2012 by Andi

We took a trip to Omaha recently for Chuck’s cousin’s wedding. She is so sweet and came all the way to Florida for our wedding, so we knew we wanted to make the trip to see her tie the knot! Here’s a picture of the happy couple! (Which I took from her Facebook page.)
